I've heard that you can try bargaining at those shops, but their discounts, if given, are quite a patronising few 10s of dollars. But you really, I mean really, must have a thick and leathery hide to bring the price down comparatively to the small local shops!
Maybe you can give us some hints/tips in bargaining?
it's wiser than buying at comex?

Hi guys, seem like many ppl also aiming at the D90.
I also planning to buy it as my first DSLR, waiting for the coming COMEX two weeks later.
Understand that normally COMEX show will not have much surprise in price, but from previous show it sometimes offer you to buy other accessories also at discounted price, like external Flash or battery grip or extra lenses.
So thinking to see anything special in the show, if not will just get one in local camera shop.
Cant wait any longer to have it!!!

I just got my D90 body from OP yesterday (friday). I think there is one more set left. Same price 1360 for full local warranty set. Stanley at OP was telling me stocks of D90 are very tight and demand is very high. Already test drove the camera at marina barrage this morning shooting the sunrise.... it is niceeee. :thumbsup::thumbsup:

u must know the "market" rate first (offered by the usual suspects). then u ask them to quote u price for cash/nets payment and counter offer the market rate...
got my SX10 for $699 at HN (comes with SD card n cleaning kit plus other freebies like bag m cheapo tripod)... quoted $690 by John 3:16 (but no freebies at all) conclusion the extra $9was worth it.

Guess that a PnS might be easier to bargain. But to get a dSLR at local shop price? That's like a few hundred dollars difference... that is haggling at its best!
It is possible. I successfully brought the price of a Nikkor lens down at Challenger Funan. When I was quoted a price, all I did was frown and say outside not so ex. The dude asked me how much I was quoted elsewhere, I mentioned the price I saw from Nikon price guide here in CS, and walah, the salesman matched it. But he told me cannot give reward points, and is cash only.
It is possible.

if u asking abt the D90 he just got i can answer, local set w full warranty... coc i also went down to OP to enquire
Local set with Nikon Singapore warranty card. It comes in a 18-105 kit box, but there is no kit lens inside and I paid the body-only price.
I confirmed it is a local set as I registered the camera, and the serial number is valid as a set imported by Nikon Singapore. 15 months warranty yeah! :thumbsup:
