D7000 discussion thread

Heehee...i just thought of all these business strategy thing.... , might not be true, just patching whatever info I can recall:

Canon is so worry that their lead in DSLR will be taken over by Nikon and feel threatening by the launch of D90 and D300 etc. They studied the trend and Nikon's strong points. Then we saw the launching of 40D (50D), 7D and now 60D. Note that the 60D's plastic body (Canon should have anticipated that Nikon will come out a successor of D90 with similar specs). Nikon knows that Canon will come out with few models just to counter attack, therefore came out with D7000, and at very least, launching D7000 with Magnesium Alloy body. Don't know what will happen to the 60D project team... :bsmilie:
(note that from these models we can see different strategies manipulated by each brand itself)

One thing I can't understand is that why Canon cannot just stick to their own style and strong points, instead of keep watching out every Nikon's movement... There is no point keep following behind its opponent and lost confidence. :nono:

Weather sealing body will work well with weather sealing lenses only. Be prepare to overhaul your lens collection as well.

Anyone know whether D7K has wireless flash commander mode? Very curious to know as I can't find in it's spec.

Agreed. And i am not very sure how many of modern lenses are weather sealed?

Also be prepared to buy yourself a nice raincoat.

Sorry i am new here but has Nikon Singapore announced when the D7000 will arrive? and around how much? Just bought my D90 at the COMEX 2 weeks ago..... the feeling sucks..

u should have gone for the D3s instead. they wont replace it till next year at least. :)

"Advanced Wireless Lighting supported with built-in flash, SB-900, SB-800, SB-700 or
SU-800 as commander and SB-900, SB-800, SB-700, SB-600 or SB-R200 as remotes"

Quoted from the product brochure. So yes. I don't think they will have a model higher than the D90 that doesn't have CLS (if the camera has a pop-up flash)

Amusing as usual..... people said the exact same thing about Nikon when Canon had the "upper hand".....

wow wow wow...
D7000 sure excites me but will roughly cost around 2k region?? same as 60D i believe??
i presumed that the price for D90 will drop eh? shd i get D90 instead?? confirm D7000 sure will be a hot item and the price will be flucuate for sure...

*ahem* can we keep all the brand comparisons off the thread? thank you.

extract from kenrockwell.com :

"The D7000 has a 2,016-segment RGB meter, which is Nikon's first upgrade since the spectacular 1,005 segment RGB meter of the Nikon F5 of 1996.

The number of meter segments isn't relevant; what is relevant is the intelligence programmed behind them, and Nikon's meters have always been decades ahead of anyone else's.

Canon still has no full-color RGB meters in any of its SLRs; most of Canon's cameras, like the 5D Mark II, still only meter in black-and-white! "

pls pardon my ignorant, but how come Canon meter in b&w and still get colour pictures? :dunno:

Apparently the D90 will still continue for a while after the release of the D7000, so it is not a direct replacement model for the D90. So prices of D90 would not drop that much. If you want the D7000, can just wait a while for the prices to stabilise and drop to normal levels (it's selling at around the same price as a D300S now)

As for comparisons with 60D, D7000 looks like it beats the 60D in almost all aspects except the screen and megapixel count. So I think I'd go for the D7000.

I anticipated the following thread will be posted not long after D7k reaches our shore (or before?)!

Lens for D7k
Dilemma: D7k or D90
Which one to buy: D90, D7k or D300s?
Shall I wait for D300s replacement or D7k?
the list goes on...

The technical part has to leave to gurus in this forum to answer. Maybe it is just the metering, final picture still in colour, it's not an issue. Just like for DSLR's using phase detection compares to hybrid model using by m4/3 system. Both are autofocus systems used to aid the focusing afterall.

the meter only measures the amount of light
it is not to be confused with the sensor

it seems that canon's light meter only "sees" in B&W
while Nikon's light meter can see colour and makes use of this information to help with the exposure

Metering is a technique to calculate exposure. Light intensity is just a value, which can be captured in black and white without a problem.

You may have confused the "metering" system with the camera sensor which captures the image.

Good, another excellent camera to be in the market to discuss....

i think this depends on which DLSR body one owns right now..

Wow, this D7000 generates so much interest, i think it will fly off the shelves when it hit our shores. I would really like to get it too but I will probably buy a new lens instead....may be later

So do I. I would probably buy a new flash or lens instead.

For the body, wait till D700 replacement has arrived.
