Anyone have any idea how much D90 was when it first launch and how long before the price start coming down? :bheart:

Should be around the areas of 16XX towards 17XX... street price, not RRP. Take a look at Nikon Price list on CS. First quote was 1700 and that was from Lords, so I imaging should be slightly higher than that. BODY ONLY

Humm... S$1900 sound logical then but that will be too close to D300s price.

sometimes i feel that dslr on auto mode is no different from a PnS just that you have a lens that can zoom further without cutting quality. so why not just get PnS Camera? they can buy 2 with the money they spend on dsllr..haha no offence man..

Dslrs at iso3200 can beat the hell out of most pns at iso400. This alone is worth the price difference.

Wait till you see what those teenagers are using nowadays..haha..spending on a dslr and camwhore!!

I sense some jealousy in a few posts about beginners who buy high-end DSLRs.
In their defense, they are not spending your money.
Whether or not they can or can not use the camera to its fullest capability, it is really neither mine nor your concern.
Comments that ridicule newbies, may shy them away from joining Clubsnap.

PS: I own a D5000.

I share your sentiment :) We should eliminate the 'elitist' mindset for photography. After all, all of us start from some point in life.

PS: I own a Panasonic LX3... not even a DSLR :) At one point, I didn't even own a camera...

Okay its not as if ppl have to go through an examination and pass it with flying colours before they are presented with the highest honours - a D3x. Money is a limitation in this field, and if they can afford, who are we to dispute? As much as i like to think of it as a placebo effect, i can't do a thing about it. They are richer, they get it.

The thing about showing off gear, is that you cannot see what is in their memory cards, and it works for them. They give the impression that they are pro, but the way u see them carry their equipment around, how they use it, you can tell they are nothing but wanna-be s. Thats my greatest consolation. :bsmilie:

Two things that I don't understand:
1. How exactly they are showing off? Does bringing the camera that one has bought and using it to take picture mean that they are showing it off ?!?
2. Why do you need to be consoled?

Ok.. I have gone off topic in the last two posts. Over and out.

i believe the launch price is $1900+ with kit lens 18-105mm.

lol tats jealousy but i understand how u feel. some of us work for years but most of us still can't afford to get what we want, but some youngsters who just started photography can straight away get the best gears in the market.

but to be fair, it's none of our concerns. it's their money and if they can afford, why not? i'll be tempted to buy the best gears if i have that kind of money too.

Might want to check with Funan Alan Photo... they seems to have some price indication

the initial indications of RRP for 60D and D7K and still are USD1099 and USD1199 respectively.

since we now know we can possibly get 60D (body alone) from various funan shops for about $1420-50 region, then we can probably expect D7K (body alone) to retail for about $1550-1580, given that we are at ~1.31 fx rate to the greenback.

add in the 18200 VRII, probably under $2500

throw in a mid range tripod, cam bag, SD cards, filters, this and that....maybe $3K-$3.2K budget in all

okay..haha..maybe i was wrong... own view afterall.. :) no offence or anything man..

After seeing so much comments makes me wonder what is the right way to start photography? I learn from my supervisor during my industrial attachment, he said buy a pns camera first. See if u like photography then shoot in P or M mode to learn it, before stepping up to dslr. Now I own a fuji 200exr... Learn abt aperture, iso, shutter speed, Dof and rule of thirds... Yet still wonder am I ready to step into dslr, still a student now... Quite poor :(

i hv the fuji pns...
very frankly, u wun c the difference unless u get a dslr n compare the pic
cos even with the manual settings(on the fuji ONLY), u can't c much difference between the fuji pics eg like bigger aperature etc
u can start off with a 2nd hand dslr like d90 and slowly move on from there.

Thanks... Second hand d90, about $1000 without lens, thinking of getting a prime len and the 24-70 f2.8. How much will that cost me? Must start to save money:(

24-70 f/2.8 is not cheap.

alternatively, u can hunt for a new d90 kit, the 18-105 would do as u learn then slowly upgrade.
for prime, u can get the 50 f/1.8.

as u progress, then u upgrade slowly.
no point gettin the best only to realise tat u dun really like this hobby

btw, i love the effects of bounce flash compare to the pns flash :D

some update from Malaysia.
canon 60D + 18-200 RM4498
canon 60D + 18-135 RM3998
canon 60D + 18-55 RM3398
canon 60D body only RM3198 (SGD1366)
wonder how the 18-200 IS is so cheap compare to nikkor 18-200.

the 60D is listed at USD1100 and D7000 is USD1200, the different is USD100.
hopefully D7000 is selling at SGD1366 + USD100 = SGD1500.
