D70 - good deal?

I got mine from HN Millennium Walk. Didnt ask for freebies though. I intercepted a set which was reserved by another customer... should have asked for CF card... ended up buying another Twinmos 512MB 70x card and then a 4GB MD from HelmetBox.

Think I'd sell the CF away since there's no use for it now that I have a 4GB MD!

I got from Harvey Norman (Jurong Point) yesterday. I paid $2288 + $350 for an extended warranty of 4 years. So, all in all, the D70 is insured for 5 years (not 3 as previously stated). The freebies include:
1. Kingston 512mb CF
2. CF card reader
3. Triopd
4. Camera bag
So basically it is a package that can start me shooting - of course, will still need to upgrade, but no rush.

I did not wait for the PC Show, as intended, because I wanted the extended warranty. For the peace of mind, also it will be good for the next owner, in case I'm upgrading, etc.

For the tripod and camera bag, there are actually freebies for Fuji cameras. "FinePix" is actually printed on the tripod box and Lowepro camera bag. Regarding getting freebies, feel free to ask for them in the major retailers (I ask for card reader to replace their dry box offer). But don't push them too much.

Basically if you want good price and knowledgable service, go to places that specialize in cameras and recommended by the activists. And if you are thinking of getting one soon, see if you can wait until PC Show.

But it you want the extended warranty, and opportunities to bargain for freebies, installment options - check out the major retailers like HN, Best Denki, etc. However, the price is usually higher. But do check around few branches of the same retailer - the deals can be different. E.g. HN Parkway is selling at $2188, but cannot give CF card.

Hope this helps.... and I really thank all who have commented and shared.

tkkoh, thanks for sharing ur purchase experience. I got a similar deal last evening. :gbounce:

I was served by a friendly malay guy "Harun" who's familiar with D70 and said he owns one too. Another guy Peter (older, chinese) told us he remembered u. Said u went there on Sat but only went to buy on Monday. He showed us the CF reader you took in place of the dry box. The freebies/instalment/extended warranty compensate a little for the extra $188. Not too bad a deal. ;)

Harvey Norman will be at the PC show, but will not be Nikon's partner this time. I also learnt that u cannot get extended warranty or instalment plan at the show. :)

Yah, these 2 fellas at JP's HN are quite ok, not like the other 2 at MW.

I think Harun is the manager there. Nikon once referred me there and told me to ask Harun (the manager) for a discount :)

Do you guys mean that the freebies:

1. Kingston 512mb CF
2. CF card reader
3. Triopd
4. Camera bag

will only be given for purchase of extended warranty? The first 2 items are of interest to me but already have the last two items. Wonder if I can get further cash discount of the D70. :D

JP also super far from my place.

Yes, they are offered to me only if I take up the extended warranty (which I did). My experience - the freebies depend on which branch you visit and with sales person you talk to. So you may not always get 1 to 4 even if you extend the warranty.

And I doubt you can change the freebies for cash. They will give you some other things ... dry box, eBook, etc.

My 2 cents worth.

when is the PC show? i thought usually deals at PC shows are quite good? i heard someone mention before that the launch price for D70 at the IT show in March was $1600 for the kit...zhun bo?

Darn... All I want is for me to purchase D70 with kit lens at the closest to $2100 via CC installment... Went to HN MW on Sunday... Did not get from there as they seems not willing to serve you and when I ask to test the cam, they let me touch it, but it has this 'E' on the panel and no CF card in it... Gave up after that.... Maybe I should go to JP instead... Hmmm.... I don't mind getting the extended warranty as long as it covers parts for the entire 5 years... And I don't need any of those freebies as I got most of them...

It was $2288 during the March IT show:
http://www.nikon.com.sg/promotions/itshow2004/itshow2004.htm

And it will still be $2288 during the June PC Show - I have asked Nikon Singapore about it. They said there will be some free gifts, but the price will be the same.

you guys nvr thought of buying from Best Denki? Their extended warranty is only 4% of the retail price. much much cheaper than HN's. However I'm not too sure if they cover for digital cameras or not. Try asking.. might help :)

If anyone of you interested to get D70 at $2050 w/GST might like to msg me for more details :) Cash and carry only.

not really la. This is the price my friend gave me.. seems quite cheap so wanna share  don't flame me if you found somewhere cheaper la ;) I earn nothing also :D

I not sure whether should I get from MS color @ $2100 with Hoya UV fliter. Or I should go down get from Nikon Roadshow from 28 may - 30 May @ centrepoint.

Get from Lords instead lah. Confirm less than $2100, the Hoya UV filter can throw away, trust me. Get a B+W MRC or wait for the Nikon 67mm UV filter to arrive.

Just one day more might as well wait for the day to come. So that you can compare the diff.
And if the roadshow give better deal, MS might change their deal to match.

Just my 2 cents worth.. :bsmilie:

How much is B+W MRC ?

67mm? Think around $60-$70 IIRC. But currently no stock ;p

LORDs selling for $2100 too. Also the sales people also not as friendly as what some described here. Maybe they are only friendly to regulars. :bsmilie:
