Went for 5 year warranty coz I don't trust the CCD to last so long. I think likely to conk out in time for replacement (or maybe the shutter will too), so might as well pay $350 more for peace of mind and shoot like there's no tomorrow. Moral hazard of insurance... ;p
IT show always sells at RRP as far as I can remember, so unless freebies are worth at least $188, no point waiting for it. Furthermore, another new model may be out by then... then it's back to "which one shld I buy" phase. Never gonna end.
tkkoh said:I got from Harvey Norman (Jurong Point) yesterday. I paid $2288 + $350 for an extended warranty of 4 years. So, all in all, the D70 is insured for 5 years (not 3 as previously stated). The freebies include:
1. Kingston 512mb CF
2. CF card reader
3. Triopd
4. Camera bag
So basically it is a package that can start me shooting - of course, will still need to upgrade, but no rush.
I did not wait for the PC Show, as intended, because I wanted the extended warranty. For the peace of mind, also it will be good for the next owner, in case I'm upgrading, etc.
For the tripod and camera bag, there are actually freebies for Fuji cameras. "FinePix" is actually printed on the tripod box and Lowepro camera bag. Regarding getting freebies, feel free to ask for them in the major retailers (I ask for card reader to replace their dry box offer). But don't push them too much.
Basically if you want good price and knowledgable service, go to places that specialize in cameras and recommended by the activists. And if you are thinking of getting one soon, see if you can wait until PC Show.
But it you want the extended warranty, and opportunities to bargain for freebies, installment options - check out the major retailers like HN, Best Denki, etc. However, the price is usually higher. But do check around few branches of the same retailer - the deals can be different. E.g. HN Parkway is selling at $2188, but cannot give CF card.
Hope this helps.... and I really thank all who have commented and shared.

tkkoh said:- 4 years extra warranty for $350.
- I don't have a card reader. I already have a dry box (came free with a dry cabinet that I bought from CP). So I choose the card reader.
- Yes, after comparing Parkway's offer, it is not as good. It is $100 cheaper, but no CF card. Actually, the free card that I have is not fantastic - I will be getting a bigger and better one. Nevertheless, with the free card, the urgency is not there and I can shop around for a good deal.
I also happend to be at Millenium Walk Harvey Norman in the evening yesterday. They are selling it for $2288, giving a 128 MB CF, and only left the display set. The 2 salesman there weren't too friendly also. So I just walked off, and went to JP (which is next my home).
- Also, the $2100 deals usually are cash/nets deals. These shops usually ask for a few % more if you are using credit cards, cos of the transaction costs. So I doubt you can do installment for $2100 at these place. Just my gut feel, so do check out with them.
Just to help those who are considering where to buy the set:
Go to places like Parisilk, AP, CP, etc. if you:
- can pay cash/nets
- want best price
- more knowledgable service
- just want the body and kit
- don't need the freebies (tripod, CF, card reader, dry box, umbrallas, etc.) cos you already have better quality tripod, CF, card reader, dry box, umbrallas, etc
Go to places like HV, Best Denki, etc. if you:
- want to collect credit card points, ntuc linkpoints, etc.
- want to pay via installment
- want to have extended warranty from the retailers
- want to get some freebies
- do not need knowledgable service
and if you choose to go to HV, etc., please note that different branch gives different deals.

ya. it's the 0% interest i am asking... sorry that i din make it clear earlier...tkkoh said:I suppose you are talking about the 0% interest credit card installment. Just divide the total amt by the number of months. Citibank card goes up to 36 months. The rest usually go up to 24 months.
I would advise that you make the purchase only if you can afford it, even if you are going by installment. Do not spend beyond your means. Personally, I seek to live below my means (and not just within).
Cheers,
