D600 User Thread II

Haha, for me one of the thing I like most about the Sigma is it's weight. It feels better balanced on the D600 than the f1.8G, solidly build. Now with the f1.8G, it feels kind of weird as it is too light weight for me....but the IQ really gives me a huge bang for the amount I paid for it. I don't pixel peep at pictures from both of them, but from what I see, any difference in sharpness is gonna be minute and only will affect you if you blow up to billboard size.

If you choosing the Sigma, why not wait till you are back and get it from BnS. It is selling for about $450 or less now I think. I never have problem with the Siggy when I had it, unlike what I have read all over the net with it's focusing issues....the D600 have got MA function so it should not worry you too much to get a used copy here.

In Japan the Siggy lens is just about $500 new, so I would buy a new one here for just a bit more than a used one in Singapore. Haha, one guy is actually selling the Siggy for $700 in the BnS section. I hope nobody falls for it.

Btw how does the 1.8G's AF speed compare to the Siggy on the D600?

That was a sarcastic comment because Eye-Fi doesn't offer any remote control. ;)

WU-1B and Eye-Fi were different to begin with actually.

Eye-Fi came out with the sole reason to use the camera to control which file(s) get sent to the computer. It requires a hotspot/wireless to connect and transmit to the computer. It also functions as a storage card at the same time. Toshiba has a similar product on sale at Challenger called 'Flu'. Eye-Fi is a standalone product that works like a memory card and also just a WIFI tool, it doesn't communicate with the camera directly, thus it cannot remote control the camera.

WU-1B is different, it acts as a hotspot on it's own, allowing the iPad/iPhone devices to receive the files automatically. It does not function as a storage, meaning, it also needs you to have a memory card in the camera before you can use it to transmit images. The remote control was an additional feature provided by the app since the device can communicate with the camera, you can control it like a computer using the app.

That said, both are different in their strengths and usages. I would get both if I needed.

Sori for the confusion, yes Eye-fi does not control the camera.
It does however also offer a mode where it creates its own Hotspot though.

Both AF reasonably fast with the D600. In good light they are about the same, in low light, the G lens edge out the siggy by just a tiny wee bit from my experience.

Hehe, sorry for the joke. ;)

Haha no worries

Does the nikon app allows changing of exposure settings? Or issit just a simple app tat allows users to release shutter

I haven't used it myself yet but I think it's supposed to be able to do that. Just a shutter release wouldn't cut it these days anymore. ;)

jus order the wu-1b from my local shop.
damage rm180...still ok...gotta support local stores sometimes....

Just came home and the box arrived:

It's smaller than I thought, it's tiny.

PS: I comes with a strap and a case and you can use it as a pendant for your smart phone. ;)

give us more feedbacks :D

;) I will try it out tomorrow morning.

What shall I say, it simply works. :)

Browsing through the photos inside the D600:

The setup is quick and the WiFi connection is reliable even in the next room here. It's a useful add-on for the S$50 here. I will mostly use it to transfer a few photos to my phone on the go while being outside.

R u able to change the settings remotely?

Jus try to upgrade my firmware but fail...battery too weak at 45%...

Modifications enabled with this upgrade of firmware, release date April 2, 2013

D600 firmware - C: 1.01

Support for the AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR has been added.

Subject tracking performance in AF-C (continuous-servo autofocus) autofocus mode with framing using the viewfinder has been improved.

Frame output size has been changed from 95% to 100% when movie live view display is changed to "Information off" and an HDMI-compatible device is connected.

An issue that caused the right edges of images to be somewhat white when captured at an Image area setting of DX (24x16) 1.5x with Active D-Lighting set to Off has been resolved.

When the camera's shutter-release button was pressed repeatedly for uninterrupted shooting with the "Record to:" option in Camera Control Pro 2's Storage tab set to "PC+CARD", the camera would stop responding with displaying "Err" in its control panel. This issue has been resolved.

In some very rare cases, colors would change with shooting when white balance was set to a specific color temperature, as with Preset manual or Choose color temp. This issue has been resolved.
