anyone been to NSC recently with their D600?

heard they are quite lax abt this and offer to change shutter once they know is d600, don't even need to see the sensor dirty or not

I just sent in mine 2 days ago. After checking by the CSO, I was told they will replace the shutter. Not sure if they checked the sensor though.

I just sent in mine yesterday. From wad I see, now the technician is more stringent on replacing shutter. I told the Malay counter guy I needed a shutter change for my replacement D600 model coz dust spots were visible even at f/5.6. He went in, came out and told me technician did sensor cleaning. I had to convince the technician that I needed a shutter change, not just a sensor clean. So they may have been tightening up their cleaning protocol for D600, just beware.

I had no problem changing mine - did a sensor cleaning first, 2 months back, still hv dust spots, told the staff I need shutter mech changed 2 weeks ago, and they did it -no question asked. Very efficient and helpful.

hmm I previously did a change a couple of months ago after I saw oil stains at f/16

Now after the change, it's oil stains are still appearing at f/16

Anyone still encountering the problem? Or are people avoiding shooting at such small aperature?

Wondering if I should go and change again... my warranty is still 28th Dec..

Suggest you bring to Nikon Service Centre. In my case, the spots appeared after 600 shots. When I brought it in on Monday, they volunteered to replace the shutter mechanism. Hopefully, it will solve the problem. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Let me know if your dust spots return after the change in shutter mechanism. If you ask Nikon staff whether the problem will go away, as usual they remain non commital.

Do they actually really swap the shutter for a new one or are they just saying they did it or are they even replacing it with a refurbished/cleaned one from another D600? Do you get a proper invoice with the part numbers which have been replaced?

Send my last Friday and collected this morning, This is the longest time in the service centre and the 3rd time said change shutter.
Hope to dust don't come back.

Hi HuaRen, so far I don't see any spot in the less than 200 shots I took after the shutter change. Will try to shoot more on higher f-stops to evaluate but meanwhile am quite satisfied with the camera. Will definitely feedback if the dust spots returned, but personally I am not too much concerned as long as its not oil spots.

Ha, thank you :) Apart from the oil spots that affect this camera, it is otherwise a good camera. Wish Nikon was more forthright in acknowledging the issue.

Didn't they? I think they did. The problem is just acknowledging it doesn't fix it.

After 3rd shutter unit replacement, Yes, they have replaced the whole shutter unit as did not see the old scratch mark on the shutter frame.
And after more than a 1000 shot, no dust or oil spot notice, except 2 faint spot on the top left corner seen at f25.
(Most of my shot is at f16 to f25 - Marco photo) Usually after taking back from Nikon for cleaning /shutter replacement, after 100 shot will see a lot of dust/oil spot. This time I am confident that the usual dust/oil from the camera will not appear. Finally is satisfy with the shutter unit replacement.

Cool.....hope that your problem is finally gone. I took my unit back but have not tested it yet

It will never be 100% safe. Just get the D610.

Just sent my D600 for spots, see want they will do next. Warranty expiring soon, so my last opportunity..

It's all about luck ... Mine have NO OIL , NO SPOT and until now ... NO PROBLEM ... ( I'm very happy with my D600 ) ...

Same thought. Why risk the issue just to save on a few dollars? The price of a 2nd hand D600 is at a deep discount for a reason.

If you would like to have a go, perhaps a D600 with some months of warranty.

Actually mine, too. Zero sensor stains or specs at small apertures. Still, I wouldn't buy somebody else's D600.

After shutter replace - 500++ shutter count , zero stain . Will update more . I am happy so far :)
