Just sent my D600 for spots, see want they will do next. Warranty expiring soon, so my last opportunity..

Just got my cam back, shutter changed again. hope its D610 shutter.. haha

Just send in nikon with expired warranty. 3rd shuttle changed but still have dust. really unhappy with what nikon does. I hope they will not ask me to pay for their faulty products.

If the price is really good then ok. If not I think save up for d610 better

Got back camera 4th shuttle unit. Shoot with F22 saw 2 spot... I think what they do is to repair the shuttle and place it inside... If can avoid D6xx series...

You mean shutter, not shuttle. ;)

Sent in mine for cleaning again, came with 2 spots at F/22. Left it be.

It's still cleaner than my lousy D4, hais. :(

Mine almost near end of warranty and has send it in for second change. Right away without even asking, they prompted will replace shutter unit. Today, when collecting I was told that new shutter unit is same as that of a D610. I can't determine how true this it. Anyway this change my shutter unit is now warranty for another six months :). I am told that should dust re-occur, just bring it back for complimentary cleaning. So anyone who has not change their shutter and warranty is expiring do go change it.

wah good that is something nice of Nikon...

Been using my D600 for over a year now. Mostly to cover events and do a bit of portraits. Didn't notice any dust issue. But when I went on a holiday to the Philippines, I ended up shooting some landcapes (f11 - f22), I noticed that there were some dust spots on my shots, including 1 that's pretty obvious. I thought it may have something to do with the environment (can be quite windy) so I told myself I gotta have it sent to Nikon for sensor cleaning.

Then I saw this. What a welcome news. :)

Does anybody know how long it takes for NSC to clean and/or replace the shutter unit (hopefully with the 1 from D610)?

They will tell u about 5days

For D600, any group of serial number to avoid, for notorious oil/dust issue?

Thinking of getting either used local set or new grey set. Just saw the price of new grey set@ $1752....tempting.

Pretty tempting I believe, there's unlimited shutter cleanings available now, I would get it just for that. All sensors get dirty anyways

dear folks,
i m a canon camera user but just wanna share this info with all.....
i just got back from beijing & saw a live TV local channel about Nikon d600 problems that had pluck few thousands user in whole of china.
there is a constant fault with D600 camera, thousands of owner have since sent in camera due to dark/black spots in photo.
even after cleaning/service by service center dark /black spots still appear in photo.

china nikon had even offer to change a circuit part in D600 camera but user upon taking camera did a test shots at service center after picking up camera, guess what after 10 shots or so the dark spots appears in photo.
service center staff will give reason due to user changing lens or dust or surrounding, eg....
but camera did not leave service center after cleaning or changing parts.
one user even sent camera to clean 7 times & still got dark spots...
TV editor even went to other countries to interview & found similar problems....,
germany nikon offer to change to D610 if user sent in a few times

No idea y u even bring this up at all. Either to update us on outdated information or implicity taking a swipe at D600 users, i dun bother.

One thing that needs to be clarified: the D600 black spot issue. As a D600 user, i'm plagued by it and had gone to Nikon Service Centre (NSC) 9 times in 4 months to clean sensor + replace camera + replace sensor. However, i can say that the black spot is really due to environment. The D610 is not entirely 'free' from this problem either. Just peek into NSC's sample D610 on display and u would observe more black spots popping up than u would in a D600.

I believe this applies not just to D600 and D610, but to all other cameras as well (D800, D4, Canon 5DMk3 etc). It's not the fault of the specific model itself, it's the fault of the manufacturer who has designed it in a way that environmental dust gets in so easily. So we cant do much abt it, can only live with it. In that case, how about stop pointing fingers at the designers and manufacturers of the D600 and instead find ways to solve the problem such that the black spot issue becomes less of a problem to u when u shoot?

BEIJING — Nikon will stop selling a digital camera model in China and offer free repairs, following claims on Chinese state-run television that product defects caused “black spots” on photographs.

The Tokyo-based company received a Chinese government order yesterday to stop selling its D600 cameras and asked dealers to halt sales, said Nikon spokesman Ryota Satake.

Nikon, which had sales of ¥118 billion (S$1.4 billion) in China last year, had earlier said it would service the models even after warranties expire, after a China Central Television (CCTV) investigative special showed hidden-camera footage of customers demanding refunds and exchanges while local service staff blamed dust and smog for the spots.

Nikon was one of a half dozen firms profiled by the annual “consumer day” segment of the programme 3.15, echoing the attack last year on smartphone maker Apple’s China warranties, which prompted a rare apology from the United States tech firm.

The show often spooks multinational firms and their public relations teams into crisis mode, but this year it left other big international firms relatively unscathed, choosing to focus on smaller, domestic players.

A short segment warned consumers about the dangers of online payments, coming after China’s central bank halted the mobile payment processes of initial public offering-bound Alibaba Group and Tencent Holdings.

The programme also said a business owned by Shenzhen-listed Gohigh Data Networks Technology helped plant software in mobile phones to collect private information without users’ knowing about it.

In a statement issued two hours after the broadcast on Saturday, Nikon China said it “pays great attention to CCTV’s report on the Nikon D600”, and had taken steps last month to address quality concerns, as well as offered to replace defective cameras free of charge.

Nikon closed down nearly 1.7 per cent in Tokyo yesterday, extending this year’s decline to 14 per cent.

Today’s order to halt sales came from the Shanghai Administration for Industry and Commerce, Mr Satake said. While Nikon has already stopped direct sales of the D600, some dealers still have the model in stock and Nikon will recall them, he said.
The Nikkei newspaper reported last week that US customers had raised a class-action lawsuit against Nikon, claiming D600 defects.

Mr Satake said the manufacturer is aware of the D600 camera issue and “aims to offer the same standard service for customers all over the world”.

The company posted a statement on Feb 26 saying it would provide free service for the D600 after warranties run out, including cleaning and a free exchange of parts. The Chinese broadcast highlighted the statement as insufficient to address a recurring defect in the camera.

it is useless after changing parts & sensor of camera.....
spots still appear on left side of photo.
nothing to do with dust or surrounding.
test confirm even upon picking up direct from service center over at counter, test shots of 10-20 shoot, spots will appear.

major problem in microprocessor - most likely.
