Hi bro, thats again a very valuable advice n saves the time n money spent on trial n error. U r good. Keep up with ur advices cos u really earn my respect for ur knowledge sharing. I will heed ur advice. Probably will try to rent a macro lens n really see how it works. Nothing beats from hands on experience.

Eerr...can we rent the raynox as well when we rent the macro lens? Heard anything abt it? If never heard before i'll just inquire it anyways. Thxs again n again.

Haha, don't mention it. I spotted a lot of spelling mistakes in my answer ^^" So embarrassing... Sorry :p

I don't know if anyone offer renting of raynox, but I think you can skip that in your first attempt. I suggest you to do these:

1. Rent the macro lens and test it on stationary objects (coins, stones, pebbles, your wife's ring, etc..)
2. Get a flash, diffuser and try out on the items above again.
3. Try to achieve maximum magnification on your macro and get used to your body movement when you are at 1:1. This is a very taxing challenge and don't forget to breath ^^"
4. Research a little bit abt breathing technique in firearms or photography.
5. Spend a day in a park hunting for bugs to shoot.
6. Return the rented lens the next, next day and give yourself another day to think over before deciding where to move from here.

Haha...u r humble la. Salute u. I will try those methods u mentioned n yes, the breathing. Its like trying to achieve marksman monetory award right? Yup, practised that for 10 yrs liao. Tuck in the arms, breathe slowly n when pulling trigger, hold ur breath.....will do that. Thxs again.

Almost the same, but dun hold your breath. It's worse. The trick is to let go of your breath slowly and snap at the ending portion when you will be most calm and stable.

Duly noted...thxs again

D5100 members, I need to check something with you all.

If you using non cross focus point(not the middle one) for example the most outer focus point, will you get a soft picture using f1.8 or f2.8?

I check many forum and they said this is normal, only middle focus point give you the most accurate focusing. Or my camera body got problem?

I know I can focus with cross focus point then re-compose, but most of the time it's worst because my skill still "fresh".

Thanks. :)

Non cross-type focus points are less sensitive compare to those that are. But that doesn't result in softer focus unless it did not focus correctly. I suspect it is mainly due to your large aperture or tiny bit of motion blur.

Thanks. I guess it's the aperture too wide because f4 then everything looks sharp. But I read some article said full body portrait should use wide aperture to make model more "obvious" in photo. But test test end up always soft when zoom in. I thought my camera need medical check up liao.

Usually lens needs to stop down a little to achieve best sharpness. But there's always post processing :)

ask u guys, what is the strap called that is used by ThatNikonGuy in the youtube of his demos? the sling type that only attached to one side of the strap holder? thxs.

duno what brand he is using but its similar to Blackrapid's RS-7

yes, but belly expensive... haha... 90+ if I'm correct.

SGCameraStore selling the Capa one for $50, last week offer at $18 each, which I missed (aggghhh!).

Note: I think the blackrapid comes with the fast release hook. some folks are very afraid of this thing and cable tie it up in case someone decides to prank u.

90+???? whoa...too ex for a strap like that n i missed the capa one tooo!!! aaarrggghh.....u think they will have promo again? ;p

I never use back neck strip after switching to blackrapid. With sling strip, you will not feel neck ache as much and i feel that walking and picking up of camera for shooting is faster too. I have a blackrapid and 1 third party double strip from artworkfoto, both work equally well. Only disadvantage is that you need to take out the strip when you want mount your camera on tripod.

I am now thinking of getting spider dslr holster, no obstruction from sling or strip.

Hahaha. Duno? I want it too! Hahaha!
Very ex right, heart pain to buy. That's y I didn't get. But the ease to use is really tempting!

Save money ah... Normal strap would do... Save money for lens... Hehehe...

Post photos what is in your dry cabinet.

Buy one good strap can last you a very long time, makes walking around more comfortable also.

I'd say hanging the cam to the side is really comfortable for long periods. I don't own the black rapid, m only using a Crumpler industry disgrace but I always sling it to my side when I'm not shooting. Eases the strain on the neck. Of cos, I'm not fast in returning the cam into shooting position since I need to move the strap.
