Eh.... AI and AI-S lenses does not support metering on the D40.

The only cameras which supports metering on these older lenses are D200 and the Pro bodies (like D2X, etc)

What I was trying to say was that the D40 can still utilise the lenses from Nikon, abeit without the AF function, for those AF and AF-D lenses. And if he uses manual ones like AI and AI-S, then metering is not supported as well...

I know you got it right... just the sentence gives the wrong meaning to readers...

"Unless you use AI or AI-S, you will loose metering."

It would mean that you have to use AI or AI-S, otherwise you will loose metering.

You only lose AF with a non-AF-S lens.

And unless you use a AI or AI-S lens, then you'd loose the metering.

I think you meant: "You only lose AF with non-AF-S lens, unless you are using a AI or AI-S lens with which you will also loose metering."

... ok ok... out-of-topic... just wanna make sure no one misunderstood you. I misunderstood it until I re-read it again.

I am still considering between the D40 and the 350D.....

But leaning towards the D40 actually.

yes...using the D40 kits lens 18-55mm II. Still getting use to it, many of the shots didn't turn out well ( hand shake).

Control your breathing.. and try to use a shutter speed above 1/60 for a start...

Actually I was thinking why Nikonians don't post their pics here (at Nikon thread). Those
at Pentax, Fuji, Oly and Panasonic all got lots of pics posting leh...my excuse for not posting is don't know how and I don't not have broadband.

Btw, I'm going to get the 50mm F1.8 tonight and try out manual focus....:sweatsm:

We nikonians only post picture in this Nikon specific forum if there is a problem that might be solved by studying the picture. For critics or comments of the pictures, there are a proper forum for that.

With the exception of AF-S 105VR, the rest of the macro lenses from Nikon can be used but ONLY in MF mode.

very nice pic!! mind to share your settings? did u use flash? i never able to get so sharp with fishes..:dunno:

I use 1/30, iso800, no flash, i shoot over 400 photos and less than 30% are reasonably sharp :embrass: and if blow up big big, can tell skills sux

Are u sure bro? I was there on Sunday. The D50 was advertised at $1388.
