haha, just note the MF... not the AF, since you can't use AF on that lens anyway. (unless you got another body that can do AF on normal lenses)

ya MF...that is the biggest reservation...scared to try...eyes straining ,haha

Different lah.. if you use MF lens, there's no CPU information, you don't get metering too. Better to get an AF lens to MF in this case. So far Sigma also don't have any macro lenses with HSM. So only the 105VR can give you AF on the D40.

Does it means that we will not know if the pic will come out over or under expose?

Well, there's always a image review. Is there a histogram to view?

Yes, there's a Histogram view as well as going into Post processing for a RGB histogram that you could manipulate.

Hi, has any one bought 3rd party lens for the D40 yet?

I've bought a used 55-200 Nikor lens from a CSer here...looking for a 3rd party macro lens...wondering any one has tried 3rd party lens...

If have, can give your comments here?

Hi :)
How's the 55-200? read in some review that the focusing is abit slow? how do you feel about it?

(sorry for the OT) but hard to get 18-200 for my D40 unless i pay jacked-up prices...

If you're using a Nikon AF lens, the metering and all other functions are still available. The image will come out correctly if you set the metering and other settings right.

You only lose AF with a non-AF-S lens.

And unless you use a AI or AI-S lens, then you'd loose the metering.

The 55-200mm does focus slowly in low light condition however its ok with well lit condition. The image quality seems to be the same as the kit lens, which is ok.

Thanks Cichild... hope you are enjoying yours...

As for the D40, been playing with it and loving it... this is one of my recent shots at Paragon

comments/advices welcome... looking ways to improve

Anyone encounter very slow write time when taking night shots with D40? (shuttle 2s to 5s) 3s to 5s delay before I can take another shot, basically the longer the exposure the longer the write time. My friend's D50 don't have such delay leh :dunno:

Check if long Exp NR is on...

Oh I see, thanks for the info Jeet77 & Zac08

Just wondering, anyone used the sigma 30mm f1.4 on a d40? Did it worked well? Thanks!

My three month old is very impressed with my new D40 ... ;)

You need to rephrase your statement... "If you use a AI or AI-S lens, you'd loose the metering."

Your statement is quite misleading... it actually means "you should use AI or AI-S lens, otherwise you would lose metering."

(Sorry for nitpicking on the english... just trying to make sure your statement is not misunderstodd.)

Eh.... AI and AI-S lenses does not support metering on the D40.

The only cameras which supports metering on these older lenses are D200 and the Pro bodies (like D2X, etc)

What I was trying to say was that the D40 can still utilise the lenses from Nikon, abeit without the AF function, for those AF and AF-D lenses. And if he uses manual ones like AI and AI-S, then metering is not supported as well...
