Shutter silent meh ;p It goes ka-chink-zhee to me :bsmilie:
Can add cons? :bsmilie:

Cons
1. People think you noob. tell them you use the D40 and you are out of a job. (I have to say loudly D2X and carry along D40 on actual day

2. can't AF with non-AFS lenses ;(

well...i used to shoot film using yashica/contax, nikon, olympus. digital compacts using canon, olympus, fuji. dslrs using canon, nikon. i don't have any strong brand preferences, but am now shooting nikon becos i like the uber convenience of the 18-200vr lens. :)

So there are people who switch systems for the 18-200 lens!

Used to Minolta, Konica and Rollei 35mm, then tried antique Rolleiflex 120mm; gave up. Switched to Fuji, Olympus, Kodak and Lumix PnS, decided to jump ship to Nikon dSLR cos it's so darn easy!

i'm continually drawn towards the 5D actually, but the price is inhibitive.

a usable iso3200 would mean even with their F4 lenses, i would be able to snap at a much faster shutter speed to freeze motion indoors with adequate exposure as compared to iso1600 f2.8 :dunno:

nvm!! i'll wait for nikon's next offering... just dreaming of stellar performance of nikon f2.8 optics and.. an excellent iso 3200 performance in the newer ones to come

Honestly, for point 4, if you talking about cropping, the D40 can. but trimmings? I don't know what you mean. Anyway, I don't think anyone does cropping within the camera (if that's what you meant)

Count me in :)

"1. People think you are unprofessional ..."

This one I don't understand ... maybe you meant "not a professional ?" I don't see how that would be a con, though ...

Any smaller and I think I will have to use 2 fingers to hold the camera

Why is it a con? Simply because clients want me to use more "pro" cameras-my D40 gets a bit underused in this aspect, not used to full capacity.

Tot the menu stated it as Trim? And yeah, don't think anyone would do serious in-cam cropping... but I'm a little lazy lah... I had keep telling myself to go near the subject! :embrass:

I see, so you are speaking as a professional photographer ... in real life it can be a factor when dealing with customers ...

What I meant by small was usual rangefinder small, which of course is wishful thinking, just dreaming. The D40 is a still lighter than a smaller Leica M, though, the D40 being mostly plastic.

Here's one favorite picture of mine on Flickr (not everyone will like it of course), she took it with a D40, and she always manages to process her work superbly raw :
