Bigger sensor? Faster shutter speed? :dunno:
the only reason I will say buy D70 is because of the screw drive and the flash's comnmander mode. Shutter speed-how fast you want to go?!!! the max I have gone is 1/2000 sec I think.. why would you need anything faster than that, practically speaking

Do you mean the Flash on D70 can be used as a Flash commander for multi-light setup? As far as I know D40x requires SB800 to be the commander of other SB800 or SB600 speedlites...

1 reason I didn't buy D80 initially is simply its ergonomics... it doesn't fit into my hand as nicely as D40 (in fact, I think D70 fits better...having tested D70 2 years ago in school).

yes the D70 built in flash can do the commander job... so you can use your external flash directly off camera

Hi! I'm really inspired by your photographs! :)

By the way, I've posted a question thread regarding whether to buy a 2nd hand D70s to complement my D40x (for the faster flash sync, faster shutter speed as well as bigger image sensor... pardon me if I got it wrong... read the spec on Nikon website), any advice for me?

thanks miraiyuki . I think i think u should save up for something better instead like the D200 or D300 ... personally i wont get backward line up or even the D80 ..... its better to choose entry>semi pro>flagship imho :) . I will be keeping my D40 for sure in the future unless they come out with a FX in a D40 body

its a common scenario to shoot faster when shooting with a f1.4 for the bokeh in well lighted conditions. sometimes i hit the 1/8000 mark at iso 100..

it will be a problem if one is using a d40 that is iso200 lowest, but d40x has the advantage of iso100

mount a ND(not gnd) or CPL or even stack them if u have to... that should work around the problem without getting a new cam imho ;p

i've been stacking a cpl but it changes the color tone of the picture

might consider getting a rodenstock ND soon, based on reviews that it doesnt affect the color. should be useful in gaining a couple of stops

Can you give me an idea on how to start on nikon d40x? I wish to buy these camera but i don't know which equipment should i buy to start a hobby.

Thanks,
Jojo

start with the kit lens first, its quite a decent kit lens. then anything else will be depending on what u wana shoot, whether its macro, portraits, landscape, events, wedding, animals, birds etc.

I.. am now using 18-200 to shoot all of these. Before that, I used the kit lens to shoot all these (sometimes supplemented by a 55-200mm VR)

Don't let a lens compromise you-it is not really the lens but how you manage to squeeze every last drop out of it. (There is no need for expensive f/2.8 lens most of the time, despite what everyone says)

this is the exact combo i have now, the kit lens plus 55-200 VR but the changing of the lenses is quite troublesome, but its only when u have separate lenses then u get better IQ and arguably bigger apertures at similiar zoom settings.

Photographers working for newspapers have learnt to do it-their job usually depended on it. (Except for the higher end ones who carried 2 bodies, or had an assistant).

Did I mention the time when you had to caryy a 200mm prime, a 300mm prine, a 400mm prime et al? ;p

Despite being warned by my elder brother that I shouldn't keep changing lens as I may introduce dust into my camera... I actually enjoy changing lens :embrass: But haven't done enough outdoor shoot to comment whether it's a hassle or a breeze to change lens. so far, I'd always find a spot to sit, then change the lens (at the same time looking out to see if any robbers around ^^ as I know I don't have the fists nor tripod to help me fight anyone off my camera...

1 thousand.... Take out lens mounted on your camera (lens 1), hold that lens like a pacestick under one arm, clamped to you body.

2 thousand... Take out your next lens (lens 2), remove rear cap, and mount to your camera.

2.5 thousand.... Put the rear cap back on original lens (lens 1)

3 thosand.... Put the front lens cap back onto lens 1

4 thousand... Stuff lens 1 back into your bag

Finish ;p

But sometime at around the 3.5 thousand.... opps, lens 1 drop to the floor....:rolleyes:

haha while camera still under warranty, everyday practice change lens drill. at the end of every month, send for sensor cleaning hehehe

:sweat::sweat: Don't think I can learn such trick... I remembered I was in dilemma: left hand pressed lens release button while right hand twist out lens on camera, then remembered "camera body must face down when changing lens".. meaning left hand must hold camera down... BUT left hand needed to reach for 2nd lens and now right hand's not free to remove rear cap of 2nd lens... also no hands to put on rear cap for 1st lens... ...

The dust wont blow in THAT easy lah. there is still a mirror infront of the sensor. And also, you wont notice dust until f/22 (unless you managed to get a glob of tissue paper stuck there, which you will notice at f/1.4 :bsmilie:

anyway I wonder how the real "master" changes his lens (not me hor...)

if i want to shoot a portrait and a landscape. which lenses do i need to purchase at first. I am a noob here and just want to start a hobby of my own. how much does it cost usually for the lens and all. I am about to buy camera this saturday. Also most of my friends are canon users but I want to try something else.

if using D40, i recommend the following
Sigma 12-24mm F4.5-5.6 EX DG ASPHERICAL HSM for landscape
and
Nikon AF-S Micro VR 105 f/2.8G for portrait & macro
