Tough combination... Your best bet now may be the Sigma 30/1.4 HSM but it's not cheap. Or you'll have to wait for Nikon to come up with the AF-S version of the 50/1.8.

its something you pop out and remove from your view finder, and replace.

commonly referred to as the ocular loop helps you manual focus. i just had mine switched in. $60 for MIC version. works fine and very well.

most shops sell macro adaptors, i.e. magnifying filters.... or extension tubes etc.. what are you looking for?

Hi.. it's quite some time since I asked you about the manual focusing screen... For your MIC version, how do you install it? Would it affect the warranty of my cam if I install it?

As for magnifying viewfinder... are they really useful for Manual focusing? I'm hooked on to using prime lens... :sweat: can't AF with D40x..

Hi.. it's quite some time since I asked you about the manual focusing screen... For your MIC version, how do you install it? Would it affect the warranty of my cam if I install it?

As for magnifying viewfinder... are they really useful for Manual focusing? I'm hooked on to using prime lens... :sweat: can't AF with D40x..

it comes with a tool for you to "unlatch" the wire thing that holds the screen in place. you just take the old screen out and slot in the new one and close it back.

well it might void the warranty for your cam.. but you could probably put back the old screen before sending in for servicing under warranty though.


as per the magnifying viewfinder, it helps for you to see a little better whether the subject is in focus or not. not exactly a need, but sometimes it helps. even with a split screen etc

Got my D80 on Christmas Day. Now I can do AF on all Nikon lenses..... but I still love the simpicity and portability of the D40!
