Ok Guys!!

Then which lens that is good and moderate for the D200 to start with?

Pls advise....:dunno:

200mm f2...would be an ideal choice.

consider if u really need the d200. its not like d70s suddenly become a bad camera. 10mp is really useful only when u print big. 5fps burst is also not a feature tt ur going to use very frequently(im assuming) camera bodies are always updated, lenses remain timeless. take for example the afd80-200 2.8. 20 years already tis still selling at U$800+

personally i'll get a d70s and get a good lens

i cannot agree with u more.... i'm definately gettnig a new cam...but i'm definately keeping my old d70 too.... simply coz of the raw files... my workflow is such tt i edit the raws straight for events .... if i get a 10mp cam..the larger files will take significantly longer to process.... haha....eg for most events... 6mp produces great images for 4r prints....

tt's my main consideration...and there's always the issue of needin to have more cf cards....

cheers..

If you think a better camera body would help you take better photos, then I guess you are missing a lot.

There was a debate on this before, better lens with crappy body or expensive body with plastic lens.

Great if you have the money to spend on both camera body and lens.

I would agree with Ortega that body like D70 would still churn out beautiful results. Unless you are a very demanding photographer who needs to do plenty of enlargments all the time or if you are a sport shooter (then it will have to be the D2Hs), then why not get the D2X? Why stop at just D200?

Does better focusing will give you better results? NO

Does better camera technology gives you creative photos? NO

Does bigger MP count produced beautiful photos? Sharper photos yes but NO they will not produced more beautiful photos.

If a owner of a D70/D70s can't even master the basic usage of their camera, why even bother getting the D200? Not many users actually read the manual, let alone operating it.

Please I am just a small individual. Please dun gimme the opportunity to mock you by telling me that you believe that you could actually support the economy.

Cheers to you too.

Whenever we buy something. Anything. We are actually doing our small bit for the economy. I AM supporting the economy by deciding to buy the 18-200. There's nothing to mock here...

Cheers...

Its my first and prob few posts on such an issue. I always wonder why people spend so much time discussing whether you need a better cam, and there are people who is on the other camp to say that cam does not matter, its the skill that counts. My take on this - its all up to the individual and his budget. Sure skill is most impt, but to a hobbyist especially, the photographic experience is impt too. For example, i had an Oly 4040 which is a good cam, and moving on to a D70 would not have helped me to take much better pictures. But the photographic experience was definitely better. No more missing moments, shutter lag etc..and it certainly motivated me to learn and capture better things. To me the bigger brighter viewfinder, bigger LCD screen, even more responsive and accurate AF etc etc will give me more pleasure in taking photos, re whether they are good photos or not. If I have the money, i will get the D200. Of course, part of the entire experience is the processing too, so if you wont want to spend so much time to edit large files, or no money for better computer, then think twice abt the D200..the list goes on..

Hi novello76,

You say, "Its my first and prob few posts on such an issue", maybe so, but very well put

Cheers :)

i believe each lens, camera or equipment serve it purposes.
sometime i read the photography magazine, those photo being choosen and posted was taken with D70 + 18-70 lens.
whatever it is, for me
D200 --- can wait
fast lens --- can wait
but 18-200 VRII lens --- dont wait! what a nice range as travel lens..lol

Cannot agree more. I had an Olympus C300Z which I used extensively before my D70. It gave good results and I was very happ with it. But it never gave me the feeling of photography, where I was in control. It just did all the thinking, I just composed a shot and clicked. I never thought much about why a shot turned out better or worse. With D70 it changed. I was in control and I could experiment with exposure, focussing, flash etc. I have learnt a lot using it.
D70 - D200 wouldnt be such a big step up though. I would prefer investing on 18-55 f2.8 to replace my kit lens and then think of upgrading my body. Perhaps the next step up to D200. In the meantime I will spend my money visiting new places.

Well said novello76, my sentiments are the same. Couldn't have said it better.

Cheers!

The issue is not if the upgraded camera can allow a photographer to take better pictures, but rather, whether the photographer can make use of the improved or new features to take better pictures. Let's put it another way: in the hands of a person who knows only how to point and shoot (note: not using a PnS camera), a D2X would still give equal or worse picture...

why buy D200 ? It cannot take movie but my PnS can ...

okie .. just a joke :bsmilie:

Lets not talk about creativity here. Its a subjective thing in a hardware thread. I am not going to dispute with you if you find funny constrasty and out of focus pix from a Lomo is creative. I can only comment that technically it does not work for me. I shot with them had fun with them and the novelty just wear off within weeks.

Better body means better pix? Technically. Yes.

Better focusing gives better results? To a large extend. Yes. Again technically.

A better cam will make taking a techincally better pix easier.

My stand. If you have the cash, go for the best. It gives you better mileage in terms of fulfilling your interest in a long run.

If you asked whether to get the D200 or D70s. Assuming you are able to afford them since you asked the question. Its D200. But in the days of film, it might be very different.

If the sensor is the same, I will think not a good reason to change. In this case, the sensor performance in term of noise and dynamic range should be better than D70.

I just have a feeling that Nikon is trying to make a Simplify D2X Version--D200 to be more affordable for enthusiasts like me, of course it can't beat D2x in term of specs, So be it, enjoy and merit... To me is a good news. Hopefully Nikon will give me another good news by announcing a good package or price..

In fact i am more prefer the smaller body (compared with D2x)

BTW, anyone can tell me the what is the price like of the new 18-200 lens from Nikon.

I saw a similar one from the Tamron, only selling at 279 britain pound!:dunno:

Are you comparing 18-200mm VR2 from Nikkor and Tamron 18-200mm no VR? .

From other thread, Nikkor 18-200mm VR2 is from S$1.1 to S$1.4 if I am not wrong.

This is an apple and an orange comparison.

Arto.

What I had seen is AF18-200MM F/3.5-6.3 XR Di II, List Price: US$726.95

you can refer to this link:http://www.tamron.com/lenses/prod/18200_diII.asp

or: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...?EdpNo=1265830&SRCCODE=WEBINK&CMP=OTC-INKTOMI

Street Price:US$378.00 (Canon Mount)

or: http://www.helixcamera.com/lenses/tamron/18200n.html

Street Price:US$399.00 (Nikon Mount)

Anyway, is 18-200 a good range for "one lens for all"?--(almost all! of course there don't have one perfect lens.)

Eh you comparing street prices vs list price and between a brand new lens to lenses that have been out for some time.

The street prices for the Nikkor lens even before it is released is around US$650. I would expect it to dip a little to say, US$600 after a while say 3-6 months. US$200 for VRII is alone is worth it, IMO, and still not counting the AF-S and faster aperture on the long end...

Wooo back from Japan!!!

I've the D200 brochure here with me, and it's due for launch in Osaka @ 26 Nov.
