CS Army / Reservist tips and info thread

hi all, need some advice here,

My NS callup for ICT is from 04th(mon) to 23rd(sat), and it will be my first ICT after uni. However I have just received notification of conditional admission into a part time Masters programme in a local U, and the condition being that I must attend a compulsory orientation and teambuilding session on 22nd and 23rd.

The 2 days will clash with my last 2 days of ICT.
My questions are
- The training program for the ICT is not up on the ns portal, but looking at past ICT callup for the same length as my callup, the last 2 days are "cohesion program" and "AAR/outprocessing" respectively. Are the last 2 days of my ICT callup likely to be the same?
- is it possible to ask for full 2 day timeoff or early out-processing for the last 2 days of ICT?
- IF timeoff is not granted, and the Masters programme doesnt allow me to skip the orientation session(have not called them since its the weekends), what are my other choices if I really want to join the Masters Program?

As mentioned, it will be my first ICT so not sure what to expect or what is possible/not possible. At the same time, I have put in a lot to get admission into the program, including leaving my previous job in preparation for the entrance test and other admin for admission into the Masters Program, and the program would be very helpful for my career switch, thus I really really do not wish to miss the program. Appreciate any feedback..thanks!!

Yes, you can apply for leave or time-off.

I was called back for reservist recently. Given the economic slump, those who had to attend job interviews were allowed to book out and were given time off.

Just approach your officer in charge.

The only draw back is that if you have to leave early on the last day (which is what happened to one of my mates), you might miss the official outprocessing (i.e. scanning of NRIC). So technically, you are not officially discharged from ICT and have to go back to camp for this routine AFTER your official ICT period.

wah, SAF must give you extra badge, "Most ON"!

got question here, can i modify my current helmet? from the double chin strap to plastic chin guard?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

any MUA know how to do the digital camo on face? very hard to paint tiny squares ler... :bsmilie:

any better (waterproof) make-up to recommend? :bsmilie:

during ICT, so long as during the 2 weeks, maximum can only absent for 2 days with valid reasons.
can take some time-off but do info the officers or the OC about it, only go when green light is given.

if your helmet is very very old, can always bring your 12 12 then go emart to do a kit exchange.

Thanks all for the advice on my previous question..some more questions..

will be going for my 1st ICT next week... Dont know what to expect on the first day.. so>

-When the SAF100 stated time is 730hrs, means get to the guardhouse by 730hrs? or get to the guard house at 630hrs so that by the time you in-process, its 730hrs? :bsmilie:

-Next questions: What is an appropriate haircut for reservist so that we will not have to be picked-up by the RSM and sent to the camp barber? Will short-layered do? Or must have high slope at the back and sides?

-If the ICT period is 3 weeks, weekends can book out? Heard that only married people can stay out on weekdays.. any unmarried folks here managed to stay out or get nights off?

I just finished my ICT 15-25th apr. I always reach e in-pro center by 0730. Faster in-pro then i can go canteen for breakfast. :bsmilie:

My unit always like to catch haircut, will get charged and fine $50 if hair is not up to e standard. If hair touch ear, comfirm will kena cut by barber. Stupid camp barber is $8.

It really have to depend on yr unit whether they allow u to stay out. So far i always stay out unless got night training or exercise but need to book in and roll call at 0800. :bsmilie:

Thanks all for the prompt replies..

Haha.. I will definitely go cut hair but I am just worried that its not short enough.. did some googling ,eg. http://comment.straitstimes.com/showthread.php?t=938 and all sorts of conspiracy theory came out..(need to hit quota so that camp no need reimburse barber, coffee money, etc etc).. Really dont want to get cut by the army barber and end up looking like a recruit again..

Hope my unit allows stay-out.. Seletar camp is so run-down that I dread staying-in the bunks.. :bsmilie:

BTW for those driving, there is usually a big jam at in-pro time. And the roads tend to be packed at such an hour. So come earlier or you may get into trouble.
And yes, colored hair is a big no no.

Otherwise reservist is a chance to keep fit and catch up with old friends :)

:

I always in-pro at 10am, then I will still have time to go for my breakfast. The 'efficiency' of reservist unit is highly predictable. I've been to 7 ICT, non has ever started moving before 11pm even though the in-pro timing is 8am.

And one advise for trainees who don't wish to get 'elected' for any sort of appointments, never do 18 pull-ups when the majority give up at 10
