Don't judge.

Just give reasons for what you see, think and feel.

For example, maybe beauty in Timbaktu is so, for different reasons from that in Sinkabore; and if we know what is considered Sinkaborean beauty, then we can compare, and then maybe we learn to see Timbaktuan beauty too ...

And the one criticised can teach the critique too ...

To set the record Straighter, you did it many times to others but it does not apply when you commented on Jeanie's Photo.

Below is the example. You actually know how to sugar coat your comments. If you treat others the way you have treated Jeanie, you will hve less problem with the rest of the people here.

I think this forum is like a very big ball court, everyday many people of different pedigree gather here to play some games. Some are professionals or semi-pro who come here to exhibit or practice their skill, but some could just be school kids who love to play the game, or uncles who just wanted to exercise once in a while.

If you happened to be a seasoned player, you may truly believe that these kids and uncles sucks big time. Does it mean that you are entitled to go ahead and tell them your true opinion that they sucks and should have check their own capability before appearing in a public court?

I think it really depends on what field they are playing in. If they are going for trials in a professional team, then yes, they should have QC their own standards first. But if it’s a court opened to everyone, it’s really up to the owners to set the rules. If the owners intention is to talent scout players with potential, he may want to maintain a certain standard requirement for anyone joining the field. But if he merely wants to get more public to participate in the hobby and have fun, then he has all the right to intervene when he sees that the seasoned player action has intimidated the young kids or casual players and is chasing them away.

Ultimately, the house rules RULED. If the mods and general public here wish to encourage participation and reduce friction in this forum, lets respect it.

I wholely agree that speaking truth does not equate to those “you sucks”, “your stuff are garbage”, “a five year old kid shoot better than you” comments. Why is it so difficult to simply point out the deficiency of the pictures posted and state that you don’t like it without adopting provocative adjectives?

how to call things that one believes should have ended up in the trashbin? How to phrase it if this is the feeling one gets?
When i show my mom (herself a learned photographer) photos of a shoot, she goes through them and tears the crappy ones sending them into the waste basket. Not that i would have thought that the photos i gave her are crap... but then they are mine and they always look better to me than to others...
So i think there are photos where one feels that they belonged trashed and i think one should be able to express that. Its just part of critism. However, i would agree with you that a statement "the photo is trash/garbage" would require also some sort of explanation to why, since the poster obviously thought different of the shot.
I think the statement trash/garbage is legimitate as long as you substantiate.

As another way of putting, "trash can" I would be more likely to say to the poster of a bad photo .........

Create a folder named "Rubbish" and put the photo in there.

As you progress in your photography, check out the rubbish folder to see how you have progressed.

Don't be ashamed of the rubbish. Learn from it.

In some countries, the picture taker can be done for kiddie porn with this pic.

It would then please you to know that the photo of the subject is the StreetShooters own flesh and blood. THe photo was taken to illustrate a point. That was the intention of the photo. If you choose to read that much in that picture, then you have my sympathies.

That's actually very good advice.

I once told someone that often I did not think to ask myself why I delete pics when I reviewed them in the cam. For surely I was attempting to do every pic right in every shot. So what went wrong to make the pic fail? For if I knew - and I learn - then I wont repeat it in the next shot or at least try or experiment something else instead.

actually hor tetrode is right, in some countries you cannot even take pictures of your children in less than usually attired.

It surprises me to find out that people still ask why i close threads.

This thread was coming along nicely and the general consensus is quite clear for all to see. Now with everything said and done, I am thus closing this thread.

For the main protagonists within this thread, I hope you see what I am driving at. I will no longer entertain any further outbursts of such nature.

Any further threads that deal with this particular subject matter or alludes to it will be closed without prejudice or warning. I will simply leave a link to this very thread.

On my end, I have drafted a set of guide lines and a set of house rules which are condensed from the TOS and will make it a stickie. I sincerely hope this will be the last of any further discord. If you do not like the set of rules that are in place, kindly write to the admins to seek clarity or ask for it to be changed. Failing which, i reckon all of us will have to learn how to live by the rules.

Once again, this house has rules and I hope each of us will respect it. I do not take particularly well to snide remarks in regards to this particular subject so I hope you will understand if I leave my sense of humor at home when I deal with this matter.
