Honestly, I think that a Contax section is a waste of time. It should be expanded to a Zeiss section, after all, the zeiss glass is the reason why we buy into Contax right?

So many offerings now, Canon's 350D has tempted me a lot, maybe should get this body plus an adpater to use my contax glass?

An another offering, the Zeiss Ikon glass samples.

Well, i mainly started this to get ppl with the contax slrs together... and i expected this thread to be dominated 80% by viewfinder ppl, AND zeiss lense talk...

So, go ahead.. talk abt Zeiss... As long as we can gain valuable info/experience from this thread... it's all good.. :)

Hi Marios,
I am looking to buy one, not sell.
Anyway, the prices of these lens really scares me :(
Buying follows the selling, and selling follows the buying. One cannot exist without the other :)

The difference in the buying price and the selling price should be compensated by the experience of owing the lens (which differs from person to person: how many times did you hear "$800 lens used 3 times for sale"?), and the value number of keeper shots that you took with the lens.

Of course sometimes you can also make a profit :)

But as you said the prices are high, and at those prices it is best to try before deciding.

Have anybody tried out the contax (Zeiss) lenses on the Canon EOS body using a adapter? I might want to get a EOS 350 plus a Contax/EOS mount adapter in the near future.

i tried that. but din dare use stronger solvent like alcohol to clean it just in case... also i find the hold/grip not too friendly. what do you guys think i should aim for the next camera body?

Canon 350D with Canon to C/Y mount adapter. It's gonna be the the unofficial Contax C/Y mount digital body! :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

yes me.....currently using a eos d60 with my ziess lens now planning to change the focusing screen of the d60 to a split screen for manual focusing. manual focus using the d60 is a bit hard and not very acurrate esp in dim or night envoirnment, for day, it is not so bad. Tried taking the chingay parade with a setup of 100mm f3.5 and d60 and very sad thing to say.....my focusing sulks or maybe its my eyesiht failing me :bsmilie:

For the 167mt battery problem, someone once advised me not to use those energizer batteries as their output is too strong for the 167mt. So far i been using everyday, sony, duracell and so far so good, my 167mt have never ever given me any of those batteries problem

PS: any one knows where to get the contax 167mt split screen focusing screen? if i am not wrong, its should be fu4, asked cathay but they say they never sell.....

Hey! Where did you get the 100mm f3.5 and for how much?

Anybody else have any idea if the focussing screen of the 350D can be changed to accept split screens?

I didn't buy it, it was given to me b my dad......crazy contax fanatic as my mum would tell me.....during their dating day, he barely had any money cause most of it spent on contax stuffs but after marriage and having two kids(me and my sis) my mum tod me that he started to tone down and sold quite alot of his equipment off and now it me who has picked up his bad habit :bsmilie: the focussing screen should be changable with some modification. the following website actually show how the modification is done and what is the size which you have to size down the screen. Read it somewhere that only contax 167mt fu4 focussing screen and nikon FM2's (if i remember correctly) work while canon own split screen and mircoprism give a back focus thingy. http://mulder.nchc.org.tw/ckmax/Camra/DIYFocusingScreen01.htm

PS: forget to mention, the above webby is in chinese

Hi Xpose and Ikax.
Thanks for sharing your experience on the adapter. I know there is a website call dslrexchange.com selling such adapter.

http://www.dslrexchange.com/czeos.html

The above link is a instruction page that tell you how to install the adapter to the zeiss lens. The procedure look a bit complicated. Beside that, it also said that the zeiss lens have to be slightly modified  to prevent the lens from rubbing the mirror box. Did you modify your Zeiss lens? After modification, can it be use on the Contax body? :dunno:

The rubbing on the mirror box is quite true. To what extend on how serious the rubbing is, I have no idea, so far for my ziess lens, they are all ok without the need of filing the aperture level down as from what i see is that the original ziess aperture level is definitely very short. The only problem which I have is the 3rd party lens like tarmon, vivitar and etc, if you compare their aperture level, theirs are definitely way too longer than the original ziess and thus when i mount my tarmon 35-135 onto the d60, I got some rubbing marks on the mirror box but since its nothing serious and the d60 is a 2nd hand body, heart also not that pain, however, the vivitar 28mm lens i have is definitely a gone case as it can't even be mounted onto the d60 body.

If anyone of you want to get the adapter and if the demand here is good enough, I might just do you guys a favour, send my piece of adapter for mass machining production and that should save most from the hussle of order online and etc. But do note that my adapter is not the Dslrx one though
