Guys, quick check..

How do we differentiate the Zeiss C/Y mount with the Zeiss Nikon mount? Is the ZF a clear indication that it is a Nikon mount? Can the Zeiss Nikon mount be used with a Canon mount (thru some adapter)?? Thanks.

Regards, Meg
ZF is definitely for the nikon F mount.
You can use a nikon-lens-to-canon-mount adapter to use the ZF lens on your canon camera.
Alternative..
Together with the ZF, CZ is also making the same lens in ZS mounts... which is suppose to fit all other SLR type cameras. (not sure exact details)

as far as how to differentiate.. you probably need some photos to compare them.
C/Y mount has 2 types.. MM and AE type..

additional info about ZS lens

Carl Zeiss ZS lenses come with the same optics as the ZF line; only the mount is different. ZS has the M-42 screw mount, the one that used to be called the "Universal SLR mount." We don't think the M-42 screw mount is going to take the market by storm, but it has a unique advantage: there are M-42 adapters available for any SLR bayonet mounts, including Canon EOS and FD. So you can adapt a ZS lens onto any 35 mm SLRs (and many other applications as well) if you crave the optical characteristics of this lens line and are willing to get along without the convenience functions of recent lenses.

Hi haagen_dazs

Thanks for the prompt reply. I've been giving the ZS lens a thorough thought and hope to get my hands on 'em. I've laid my hands on the Distagon 25/2,8. It's worth every penny. :)

I bought mine for SGD $800. Underneath it's engraved, made in West Germany. ;)

Oh, I checked with Zeiss website and they do not have the 85/1,4 ZS mount. Only the ZF mounts come in 85/1,4.

I heard the ZF lens are due in June/July. I heard the ZF optics are of higher quality compared to the C/Y mount. I wonder how true that is though...

which adadpter are you using for this lens? (assuming you are mounting it on canon

CameraQuest C/Y mount adapter. I've seen other adapters (e.g. fotodiox) but uncertain about their reputation.

I've also seen some CSsers selling the 85/1,4 C/Y mount ard the region of 1k3 but I'll prolly wait till ZF mounts are on sale and decide if the difference between the old and new lens are justifiable. :)

cz c/y lens range quite a bit depending on condition and where it is made.
just have to wait to get a good price. i wont pay ridiculous prices.. i just want the glass to be clean.. cosmetics is secondary (impt but not super impt)
after all the lenses are 30 yrs old..

Well, if you're gonna pay that much money, you'll definitely want a clean glass. But since it's almost 30 years old, you can't expect it to be pristine. Which is why I'm still contemplating between getting the new ZF lens and the used C/Y lens. I'm expecting a pristine glass if I'm shelling that much amount of money. Won't you too? :)

if you study the prices for the c.y cz , its like all over the map (for some)
=) hope your copy is really clean and good.
i personally think it is on the higher end of the range :)

I had a hard time looking at the 25/2,8 lens under the fluorescent lamp for a long period of time before deciding if it is worthwhile. I did however asked if the Distagon 21/2,8 is available. Alas, it's out of my reach but the MTF charts for the 21/2,8 is pretty impressive compared to my 25/2,8.

21 is a couple of grand in usd....its ridiculous.
you can try looking at the olympus zuiko 21mm..
you should try to do some tests with your 25 at perhaps f8..
check for CA.. you will be extremely pleased..
i did a test on my 28mm cz lens (and other lenses i had) and WOW is all i can say. absolutlely no CA at 300% crop when compared to other lenses at 28mm ...
20 mm is quite wide on FF.. but it depends on what crop factor you use..

I'll surely give zuiko lenses some checks. Are you intending to get any of the Planars? Sonnars perhaps? By any chance, do you happen to have a reference to any zuiko lens which could fit onto the Canon mount? ;)

Check out the Olympus Zuiko 21/3.5
There are alot of other super wide angles available. Not sure what you are looking for.

extensive review.
will keep you busy for a while

I am not getting planars or sonnars. Only distagons
Planar that may be of interest to me would be the 85mm
As for sonnars, i rather get canon lenses for that range due to many convenient factors that outweight the sonnars

Interesting readup there

Oh btw, I chance upon some leica reviews (90/f2,8 & 75/f2) and gosh, they're yummy. I would like to try it out first before making my decision. ;)
