Welcome to the revamped SLR and Compact section in the "Before Digital, Beyond 35mm" sub-forum.
There have been some calls for a home for film SLRs users. They didn't really feel welcomed in their own brand "digital-centric" equipment discussion forums, and they didn't really fit in naturally with the rangefinder / MF / LF equipment.
We are pooling the film SLR and compact users here to share common resources, stories, learnings, sharings, etc. Someone with a problem with their FM might have a better answer from someone with a F-1 or OM-1 than someone with a D3x (no offense intended).
[Film or Digital?]
SLR discussions here should only be limited to film (DSLRs already have sufficient space carved out for them in the equipment discussion sub-forum).
e.g. Canon - A-1, AE-1, EOS 1v, Contax - RTS, RX, S2, Konica - FM, Auto-Reflex, FT-1, Leica - SL, R4, Minolta - SR-1, XD-1, X-700, Nikon - FM, FE, F5, Olympus - FLT, OM-1, OM-4, Pentax - Km, MX, *ist, Praktica - Nova, MTL5, B, Yashica - J3, TL, FX3... among others...
For Compacts, both film and digital are welcomed. However, I would urge those who have current digital models, or at least not so obsolete models, to do your discussions in the brand equipment discussions, e.g. Fujifilm x100, Panasonic LX5, etc. You can post them for comparison, but this section should be catering more to the "orphaned" Contax, Leica, Ricoh, etc.
[Traditional or Alternate?]
This is admittedly a bit of a grey areas. CS also provides the Alternative Photography usergroup - Toy cameras, pinhole, panoramic and other forms of alternative photography. We have rationalisd that those who are more inclined in exploring "Alternative" cameras (e.g. pin-hole and toy cameras) and styles (e.g. x-processing) would probably find it more conducive in the alternative photography discussions... but that is not to say that you're not welcomed to use the resources here.
We will adjust the threads here in the coming days.
