Not true. All local Panasonic cameras have limited international warranty.

Those that only offer shop warranty are most probably grey goods.

So can I repair a USA lx5 under usa warranty in Singapore ? No. So what does limited international warranty mean? To me it's marketing hype. To the layman you cannot seek warranty outside the country to which the original camera or lens is bought in. If my understanding is wrong please correct me. Because that means I don't have worry buying Hk or USA panny products.

Let me give an example of what I mean. I bought a 45-200 from b&h in USA. It came with limited international warranty. I read the fine print. It says that warranty will only be honored in USA and Canada. So it's limited. Can I get it serviced foc in Singapore in the warranty period? No right?

They can call it watever they want bec they hv the word limited in front of it. Its international but limited to usa n canada. Just read the fine print to be sure.

On the contrary, you can get your set repaired for free if you go to USA or Hong Kong with Singapore's warranty.

Local cameras are priced slightly higher because of this warranty coverage.

I'd rather prefer oly's model. Worldwide warranty. Buy anywhere service anywhere.

I guess from the point of consumers definitely the place with the best bargains and deals would make it the most appealing, but unfortunately, and very realistically looking at the situation, it doesn't apply for a lot of brands.

Canon has China and Hong Kong warranty which does not appeal to other parts of Asia, just to quote one.

And of course, I understand where you're coming from =)

Ask yourself what you want from G3 that is missing on your GF1, and see if it's worth the extra cost and effort to change...

To me I feel it's better to use the money for the 45mm lens. GF1 is still a very nice camera. Other than the built-in EVF, i dont see anything really worth the change (i dont think it's really an upgrade anyway). I'd wait for the rumored GFX if I were you, and that's what I'm doing myself.

I have changed from GF1 to G3.
It depends on what you want.
The main things going for G3 over GF1 are :
1. higher resolution 16mp
2. better iso performance
3. EVF (helps in bright sunlight and for manual focus)
4. swivel screen
5. Having both #3 and #4, but at about the size of GF1.
6. Touch screen (eg. touch selective focus area)


I did not really care for higher resolution and high iso performance.
Got it for the EVF so that I can frame better and faster as well as use some of my MF lenses better.


As FengWei mentioned above, typically getting new lenses is better, but all depends on your needs.

I am old man, both knee and back hurt. swivel screen come in handy without me bending in awkward position. You would appreciate much more a swivel screen when mounted with FE.

Worth getting the wasabi panasonic G3 battery @ US$19? as compared to original or other 3rd party ones avail here.

My current battery sure drains fast; need to bring a spare.

Check whether the power indicator shows up. On my gh2 , the 3rd party batteries work but don't show remaining power.

From the reviews on amazon, seems like the remaining power won't work. But u get 40% more power ... wasabi power.
