Congrats!

For all of us, I'm wondering what settings you have on your G3?

For me right now:
Photo Style at "Standard"
Sharpness +2 (the rest at default)
OIS - mode 1
AF Single, Area focus, multi metering

Actually is mode 1 or mode 2 better for daily handheld shots?
Will sharpness +2 be too harsh?

Also what hotshoe flash are you using on your G3? Any recommendation?

I use a GH2, which is very similar to the G3... i shoot in vivid mode (because i like the better colour saturation) with sharpness +2 as well

For Flash, besides the Panasonic ones (too expensive) and the oly ones (FL-36R and FL-50) you can use other brands like Metz, Nissin, Tumax etc. As long as they support Olympus E/Panasonic hotshoe with TTL.
I havent used the oly ones but from doing lots of research, a good flash with tilt & swivel and rather small and light is the oly FL-36R. Only downside is that it uses 2 x AA so the recycle is a little slow (from reviews, not my personal opinion)

Personally, I have both the Nissin di466 (small, light, cheap and ok. tilt, no swivel, uses 4x AA) and i just got a Metz 50 (tilt, swivel, mid sized) as I needed more power.

Initially i was aiming Nissin di466 but realised there's no swivel, so cannot meet my needs. Now i have to find some others. I will go take a look at metz50. Thanks.

Btw for vivid, i think will have problem in tungsten low-light condition? even wb cannot really help. Must change to standard rather than using vivid. Any advise?

yep.. WB is very tricky. I shoot in very harsh lighting env where you have tungsten, you have spotlights and some florescent here and there. After months of playing around with settings, i've finally settled as the default 4200K for flash and 3200K w/o flash for env like these. That will give me an adequate shot which I PP in LR3 to fix it closer to what i really want. Using AWB, or the tungsten or even white/gray card dont really work in some of these funny lighting env i shoot : (

Somehow always comes out too yellow..

This thread damn poisonous! Anyone know the latest best price for G3 and color availability? Any issue with using Oly lenses on g3?

SLR Revo still has g3 black and red. Body should be around 770. TK is selling twin lens kit g3 at 12XX cash. Colors availability not sure.

Is anyone using SilkyPix to process their pics?
It seems that other than WB which it loads the camera setting, it uses its only nominal settings for the other parameters.

It would be terrific if Panasonic implemented focus peaking, like Sony did.

G3 comes with MF assist.. You will be able to zoom into the part where you want to manual focus on both the LCD or the EVF..

Use mainly Photoshop cs4. But G3 raw does not work with cs4, only with cs5. Wonder why adobe does not have update for G3 raw files in cs4?

So that you need to buy CS5 :D

You can convert the .PEF file to DNG using the Adobe RAW Converter; then it can open in CS4.

I may be the odd one to like SilkyPix (bad english and all) :D
Fits my layman usage better.

hi. i very seldom join forum chats here, but i must say that after reading through the very interesting and informative feedbacks here, it has helped me a lot in deciding on which m4/3 cam to buy, so therefore i must express my gratitude to the thread starter.

a few days ago after selling away my other cam and looking for a better replacement, i had a heck of a difficult time going through the tons of choices available out there. the info i was able to gather here made me finally decide to get the G3 earlier today. my first choice was actually the GX1, but the built-in EVF and the fully articulated LCD sealed the deal for me.

so to everyone who contributed to this thread, my warmest thanks to all of you for making my life easier. cheers!

now, back to my new toy haha.

I am looking to get a G3 as well, went to a few shops to get prices.
Alan Photo and Cathay do not have stock of the white one.
Wanted to get a G3(single lens set) from Cathay but they ran out of stock. :(

From the promotion flyer from Panasonic Singapore, it seems like there is no stock for the white version in Singapore.
The only available colors are red and black.

Thanks. Even red is not easy to come by. But I will get the GH2 instead. Fiddled with both and the GH2 ergonomics n grip suits me better. I also like the button layout and controls better.

Did you try slr revo ? Unless you want the kit lens , you can get body only plus another lens.

Did try SLR Revolution but the price at Cathay & customer service was better at Cathay, so I decided to go with them.

my first choice was to get the G3 body with the PZ 14-42mm lens, but it seems like there is no stock for the PZ 14-42 lens from the shops which I went to.

So, I decided to get the single lens kit set first before upgrading to the PZ 14-42mm lens.

Was recommended to the Panasonic 20mm F1.7 lens by 1 of the shops. now I am deciding if I should get the body with this lens first.
