The sensor is different from the Panasonic G3 and GX1 sensor. This is a 16.9MP version, while G3 and GX1 are using 16.6MP.

My guess? From another sensor other than Panasonic?

Both Panasonic and Olympus use the same sensor but they have slightly different sensor counts, even with the 12MP. Olympus used 12.3MP while Panasonic used something like 12-12.1MP.

EP1, EP2, EP3, EPL1, EPL2, EPL3, EPM1, GF3, GF2, G2 and G10 all used the same 13.1MP (total count) sensor. Effective MP is lesser for different models. GH2 used a 18.3MP sensor while GX1 and G3 used a 16.6MP version.

Here the total pixel count is 16.9MP for E-M5. Effective pixel is 16.0MP. Unless DPreview puts a wrong figure or given wrongly, seems like another sensor to me.

Wonder how much it'll cost locally.

My guess is 1299 body only, 1699 with 12-50. Street price would be slightly lesser.

There is nothing to stop Panasonic from making a bigger slice of the wafer. :dunno:

Think I'll just go for the body only option. The 12-50 doesn't look all that impressive.

Yup... Why they didn't make the 12-50mm the same as the FT 12-60mm..

easy; size, price and regular 4/3.

the majority of the market slice wouldn't pay for a f2.8 zoom; at the same time it's their way of segmenting m4/3 with regular 4/3.

my guess is that you gotta wait for the total demise of 4/3 before f2/2.8 zooms are developed for m4/3.

a bit worry, does these appear in any way 'fast'?

Thanks for the pics. No local models? Anyway, I like the slide where they had a handsome dude as the target user for OM-D, and a hot babe as the market segment for the Pen :)
You are welcome. :)

Yeah, no local models...
