Christmas Super Deals on K5 - $12xx from Shops Now!

if under 1.5 still believe hahaha US has been downhill since I last join a company where hits recent headlines like hotcakes hahaha. As you say try out before purchase means I can try out at shops like SLR before buying?

Referring to 2nd hand stuff.
Anyway, for both old and new stuff you can and should try out bfore purchase

Am I surprised to know the sheer increase in prices of FA Limiteds.. the FA43 from $690 in 2009 to $1k now. That is a steep rise. Don't recall it being so 'cheap' even back then though.. but it may be my wonky memory.

Best bet, if one is on a budget, is 2nd-hand market. I've never bought any lens new, except the kit. And had no problems with used ones.

SLRR only have the K5 with Kit lens..... else maybe, just maybe I will be a Pentax K5 user too.... ;)

Hi Do you know the price roughly for the K5 with kit lens?

worth it for a beginner like me?

was thinking of getting the K-R but this seems like a good deal now..

I am not exactly sure of the price, like ard $1800++ I think... best to call SLRR up and check.. but ya, with the current price point, make sense to go for K5 if you are looking at Pentax system.

Body only
But got stocks ?

have to ask lor. cos for pple who already have lenses, may not make sense to buy with bundled lens. i bought mine when it was launched and i bought body only.

For those who are thinking of the K5 call SLRR or OP to inquire about stock and availability. Once you have pricing, reserve to avoid disappointment. They sell, Body only or body with Single Kit lens or Dual Kit lenses DA18-55WR+DA50-200WR. But Single Kit is w/DA18-55WR or DA18-135WR.

the moment i decide on this is the moment it's out of stock everywhere(for body alone) : ( (

Call first if got reserve better

I did reserve the previous week. sadly stocks didn't come in as promised by the good staff.

Yap boh stock.... all the friendly neighborhood store..... even the competitor D7000 also boh stock....... so my BBB virus self cure at the moment.... :p

Was going to molest the 2 and see if wanna go back to DSLR...... :love grin:...... cause if taking my kiddo, P&S just don't cut it....... partly my skill lar...:sweat:

Guys would like to check if I purchase a K5 but using a non wr lenses will the body though wr be affected by the rain or was so ever due to the non wr lenses. Is it recommended to get the wr lenses cos I am new to Pentax and wanted to get K5 but understand it doesn't comes wit the normal kit lenses.

All DSLR bodies will be generally ok in very light rain.

If you want peace of mind, it is best to use the K5 with the WR lens if you wish to shoot in the rain.

I went through a similar thought process in the past. I then went for a used K5 for good value and future-proofing, not so much for WR abilities.

The WR features are just weather resisant, not weather proof. If it's a heavy downpour, you might be better off with waterproof cases?

With or without WR lenses, the mount areas would be sufficiently tight to prevent small splashes of water seeping in. Anyway, this extends to other DSLR brands as well. And when the rain or dust arrives, everyone would naturally be protecting our gear somewhat.

These said, many Pentaxians don't shoot with WR lenses all the time. The WR lenses may be more of a marketing idea to target, perhaps, those situations of extreme nature or wildlife shooting. A good example would be shooting whales or dolphins out in the ocean on a rocking boat with splashes everywhere. You won't die with a non-WR setup (those Canon L lens mostly aren't WR, if I recall correctly). Just need more wiping down of equipment, perhaps? Key question still points to the user's most needed shooting situations.

If you are entering the Pentax system, WR lenses should have less weight than the list of many great non-WR lenses from Pentax, new and old. Check out all their highly regarded primes.

if its heavy downpour, u might be better off running for shelter :bsmilie: take care of yourself first.

Any system is fine under light rain.

For me WR lens comes in handy when I go to a place where I am likely to get wet (Eg. Water playing area in the Zoo/Park/Shopping center; Swimming pool; Rain; etc)
So I just keep a 18-55 WR kit lens as part of my lens collection. Cheap, good and WR when needed.

Its weather resistant so it can take the heavy downpour (see the shower and tap demos on youtube), but its not waterproof, so if submerged, up to a point, the water pressure will force the water in through the seals.
