I guess being observant is a trait every photographer should have.

That's on the assumption that "being observant" is a single trait, which is just outright incorrect. Most people, photographers included, would be observant in certain things, while totally ignorant to another. For instance, I'm particularly observant on spotting peculiar flora, but am horrible at identifying people. Hence, am I observant?
