Towards the end I gave up trying to get a good view without security personnel blocking, and just ended up sitting at the side of the road with the students and just enjoy the show...
These 2 were the "better" ones!
I am surprise that the traffic were actually quite okay....got back in 25mins by Car from Orchard to Punggol.

ditto this...the supervisors and cisco are more friendly than the aunties...and i really mean aunties.
My overall impression was just so-so simply because it felt less spectacular compared to last year. More significantly, the enthusiasm of the performers in general save for 2 or 3 groups, wasn't enough to really energize the atmosphere.
The good:
1. Kudos to the few photographers who try to shoot without disturbing the rest. Saw one fella going to prone position and leopard crawling out to the road so even the half lane people are not blocked. Maybe he didn't want to get whacked :bsmilie:
2. The entry point ushers who did their job.
There were so many people wanting to cross the road. From the chinaman who wanted to complain to govt to the family men who wanted to get to the MRT and the teens who were late for their movies. They had to run after a guy who barged in without a ticket , arms flailing too
They also had to work with the conflicting instructions too. One supervisor wanted the gates to be closed at all times. Another wanted them to be open wide cos the ticket holders couldn't see them. Lost count of the times the barricades opened and closed :sweat:
3. The performers who continued performing outside the gallery area.
They did not forget the people who for any reason, were not in the Performing Area 1-4. Great attitude and performance from the Japanese band, the SAS dance and 2 others who interacted , stopped for poses, with the people at the sidelines and half lane crowd. The organizers can keep shouting "Join in the Party!" as much as they want but its these performers that did the job.
The bad
1. The ugly people in front.
We were all seated but as time went by , people just forgot those behind and stood right in front. It made us photographers , who were crouching here and there look a little stupid. Most of the ushers tried unsuccessfully to get them to back down. Those that did, came back after a while. Parents should also control their young. One little girl ran right to the float but was fortunately caught by one of the performers.
2. The "sian 1/2" performers
Most memorable was the fire spinners who put out their fire 1/2 way along the procession. :sticktong One of the performer who was throwing powder to create flash blasts got his gloves on fire. Thereafter , they just stopped throwing. They may have re-ignited for the performing areas as part of their act but dousing so early was just boring
Then there are those that simply walk down and do nothing. Duh ? Maybe waving hello to the side lines and pose would be better than sulking through. It feels like another kind of procession to me...
Enthusiasm on the whole was pretty muted outside the 1st area. I remember the beats and percussion band last year was running from side to side all the way. This year, they just strolled on. It's like going to a concert and the singer stays in the center stage the whole time. No kick :think:
Float design is subjective , but they looked kinda bland to me. Some of them had spotlight/floodlights on them.
3. The galleries.
The performing areas are all "barricaded" by the gallery seats, leaving no viewing space for the non-paying public. Yea, I guess $45 gets the exclusivity but what about the rest of the public ? It wouldn't harm to have an area or two for the general public. The parents who could not carry their prams up, the grandmas with their grandchildren in tow, the students who want to support their performer friends and those who simply can't afford the $45.
Hopefully , tonight will be better as its the "actual" performance.

maybe the performers not enthu for the chingay preview.....hopefully later tonight they will be.....hope to get some good photos.lol
Yeah can sort of sense the enthusiasm is not really there...some like just "going thru motion" like that
Kudos to the japanese contingent though...they are really great! :thumbsup:
last year i saw a lot of the gallery seats were pretty empty, perhaps as tourists were not buying the tix, may as well offer to the public.... don't care where the money come from

"going thru motion" .... like a rehearsal perhaps, maybe storing power for tonight? all gitches may have been reviewed and i guess tonight's show will be better organised...
i say so much for the organising committe but i'm still not going to have a tix for tonight hahaha
