I posted some at page 5 on this thread. ;)

Did you done any PP on your page 5 picture? If not, you may want to tone down your contrast of your camera. Found is to constrasting on the Reds, Blues and Yellow...

Of course, using wide angle lens will be able to cover the overall object..but sometime the luck is not on us...Not everyday is sunday. Also got alot blurr shot, just practise different method loh..

Is this better?

The location I am standing not the performance area. The lighting was quite bad.
Don't really bother to PP those photos coz they make me really mad (I mean those heads in front + the rest unwelcome objects)! :sticktong

But I guess the distance you are at, with 50mm f1.8 (w/out flash at shutterspeed of 1/200 - 1/320) can do a good job too! ;) I guess the blur image was due to slow shutterspeed (1/60 -1/80) for fast moving objects.

A few shots with my Nikon 5700 below. Arrived at 8.30pm at Specialist Shopping centre and shot from well behind the crowd. Had to use the max. ISO 800 to get at least the shutter speed I require and ended with with very noisy pictures with lots of details lost. After another round of noise reduction in post-processing, picture quality is ..... :

#4 Orchard Rd was crowded with people partying.

#5 The cute Korean Drum Major (her face chumby chumby) and 2 of her fellow band members after the parade. They were stopped numerous times for photo taking as they strolled down Orchard Road after the parade and I managed to sneak in for a quick snap. The picture is cropped to exclude a fellow spectator taking photo with them and so the composition looks lop-sided.

Actually, I not at the performance area... got no tickets.

Most of the shots are after they performed moving out from the performing area along the paragon side. Found the spots quite ok when arrive around 5.30pm after the rain. Stand until the show complete around 9pm...backaching after that.

Just to share..using lens 85mm f1.8, Aperture prority at f1.8. Shutter ~ 1/30 - 1/200. No flash. Auto ISO and ....

ok..Last one before go to bed. Enjoy..

haha bro.. I happen to have the "same" pic as u (maybe a split second apart..see the lady on the left).. :bsmilie:

was quite hard taking group photo for so many people with so many "uninvited guests" posing with us, and photographers all joining in to take the shot. I am glad most fellow photographers responded to our plea for them to move aside ... but cant stop some over-zealous crowd from rushing into the picture ... :bsmilie: (we tried la.. but..nvm)..

I have more shots like this but i shall keep it to myself.. haha

The whole frenzy was over in a moment... and I am glad to have some usable shots.. No doubt we cant force others to get out of the way in a public place, I can only wish some people are more considerate and not join in a pix when obviously they are not part of the group. I guess the basic courtesy is to ask before joining in a photo or to take a photo with the performers (or with anyone for that matter).

Cheers.

I was just passing by from behind the photographers and thought I wouldn't be able to get any shot when there were so many people blocking in front. Then suddenly, I heard someone asking all the photographers to move backwards and away. This enabled me to take a couple of shots from behind the photographers in front.

DOF on a DSLR is a problem with such a big group. While a small aperture would get a greater DOF, it would also means much higher ISO and/or slower shutter speed required. I used a prosumer camera and thus had not much of such DOF problem and I was able to expose the background lights better.

From the hair colour on your avatar, I guess you could be the one on the bottom left corner of my picture above? But then, from the 2 pictures shown here, the angle doesn't seem right.

Should have more better picture than this...
What is your Shutter, aperture, zoom, iso?

Took the below on my D80. Hope to get some C&Cs. Thanks.

Hey everyone! I have been admiring the photos you have taken @ Chingay. If anyone have photos of Bellydancers, kindly send to : newdancers@gmail.com . Thank you for capturing ur Chingay moments with your camera.

All bellydancers are from Bellydance Discovery, www.bellydance.com.sg .

We wonder if anyone is interested to have a photography session of the beautiful Bellydancers, both stationary posing and dancing. We would like to have some studio photos taken @ our dance studios @ 81A Tras Street. If the response is good, we can have a session on 10th March, Sat. Simple plain colour backdrop with some props and normal dance studio lightings.

Please email your response to: yuki@bellydance.com.sg

Many thanks!
Regards
Yuki

You may want to put your picture on those hosting site.. Normally, you just upload the original photos and the software will do it for you. That way your photo will look the same as the original... did not need to worry about changing the resolution picture by picture.
Do you practise panning? For speed around 1/60 or 1/30, panning maybe achievable as you are using f2.8 lens if no flash is used. IF your object is far away, just put to infinite or else you got a hard time focusing the object as it is moving all the time...
Hope that help...

It was taken with an old fully manual 105mm Tokina telephoto lens f 2.8. The ISO was 250. Speed 1/60. White balance auto.

Cannot compress the picture to fit 100M and still maintain quality. Any idea how to? Tried Picture Project, Microsoft Office Picture, Neat Image etc but still could not get it to fit. Any suggestions?

The original photo seemed very noisy even at the above specs. So I am not sure what went wrong.

Here is a portion of the face of the girl only to show the noise level.

Hope you don't mind the C&C

Your composition is messy, too many distractions in the photos cause eyes to run all over the place. There's no focus. Everyone's doing a different thing, can't tell what your photo is trying to convey either. no mood that I can feel either.

The image is soft with visible handshake, probably because you were using 1/60.
The noise is probably because your picture was underexposed and it was pulled back too much. Contrary to popular myths, ISO800 is perfectly safe to try. It'll get you a better exposed picture, less handshake, and probably less noise due to underexposure. They're wearing white + highly reflective, probably cause your camera to underexpose more than 1 stop.

Thanks very constructive. I could not get a clean shot like many. and also with the fixed 100mm lens. Was not sure why there was quite some noise. Did push it up a little as it was "slightly" under exposed.

Very rusty in my photography skills since 10 yrs stop from film. Anyway will try to catch up and practice more. The potential for digital photography is huge for anyone to quickly learn.

Correction to the lens used : 100mm Vivitar 2.8, Macro Telephoto (over 15 yrs old and antique from my film days) Need a place to recommend for clean-up of this old lens if it still could be used on my D80. (Great Macro lens I think.)

Sometimes if you've got insufficient focal length, you can always crop the photo in your mind before you take. If I was in your position, I'd make myself go up to 1/160, ISO1600, F4, flash to fire. Crop liaoz, handshake would be less of a problem.
