heyz.. congrats on e bundle of joy! be patient wif him eh.. a child's cry is a form of communication too. =) u muz be a happy man now.. time to fill e SD card wif lovely pictures of ur baby.

One question, I realised that my f/stop changed automatically when I zoom in in M mode......like when I am in the widest angle, then I set to the brightest f/stop (2.7) then I zoom in, and the f/step change to the nex level......cannot go back also. Normal har?

By the way, how do you guys decide when to use ISO 100,200,400 etc? Like when I am shooting a pic, I can choose diff combination of ISO, f/stop and shutter speed to get almost the same thing......pardon me as this is my first full manual capable digital cam. For SLR, I set the ISO according to the film I buy, that's easy......

My thinking now is try to use low ISO when posible, cos les grainy but need longer exposure, so steady hand is important.....so i will open up the f/stop more.....this "method" correct?

Thanks!! I did took some pics.....on continuous mode some more, worry will miss some cute moments.

yes.. u look at e lens. 1: 2.7/ 3.5.. dat means at max tele, ur aperture can go no lower den f3.5. it's normal.. dun worry.
ISO settins is dependin on e lightin.. normally i leave it as ISO 50. worst case ISO 100.. anythin above dat is significantly noisy. and i hardly use e 'M' mode unless takin night-time sceneries.. always use AV.
dat method is wat i use too.. nt too bad. but if poor lightin, i normally use tripod.. ;)

hahaz.. yeahz. now, u'll be free to take pics.. as time progress, u'll find it harder. esp. when e child can walk.. e experience i haf at e centre is e children always rush at u when ur camera is out. datz normal behavior.. dun tink u'll dare take out ur camera again. but den again, ur own child is different.. :)

your lens has variable max aperture, so as you zoom the aperture value will fall to the "max" at that focal length.

you are right, try to use the lowest ISO. it may look great in the LCD and on web-sized posting, but if you view on computer or print 8R size, you will see the noise. the biggest problem with compact digicam is that the sensor is very small and hence the noise is horrible.

just like when you see this ger under the streetlamp look very chio, then you get her to hotel 81 lobby, wah say siao liao face macam kena shotgun pellet

Thanks for the tips. Actually, I have finish reading the manual (now that my little one is out, dun think it will ever finish:) ) but what is the AV mode har? Aperture mode? And the mode with a video camera? for movie? but I think can still take pic wor......

Av is Aperture Priority.. As e name suggest, u juz set e aperture.
yupz.. e camera is able to take stills while takin movie. tis is a plus pnt.. if u see a shot worth takin while recordin a video, u can juz snap it. wld disrupt ur 'movie' if u haf to switch modes..
