Hey guys

I'm planning to get a dry box end of the month for my storage.I just want to know, how often do we need to change the gel and how much we need to put in?How much does it cost ?Thanks in adv

cheers

when the blue turns dull. reheat them again. Depends on how oten u open the drybox. Better buy a dry cabinet, save the time and effort at a cost of few cents per month ( In terms of electric bill)

I have tried to shoot the moon once using 55-250 with tripod, shutter release, liked what 11,9th said. Result not really that good. 250 x 1.6 is still very limited for the detail on the moon. Overall still can see its a moon under 100% crop.
Sorry that i can't upload it as i can't access the photo upload site from office. Btw my setting is F5.6 & 1/2500, might not be a good setiing. You may test and try from here.

Anyway you mentioned "bright light just beneath the moon". Is it the flare? you may try without filter to see any of such case.

yeah i tried with tripod and shutter release too.. lol i've tried from slow shutter to fast shutter.. from small aperture to big aperture too haha

i guess it's some sort of flare but.. from where?? ok i'll remove the filter and try it tonight.. if i can get such a nice view of the moon from my house again

Gman:
hey u were saying abt the 4.3 LCD protector for the screen right, i'm quite interested in that. any directions on where to buy it?
hows ur manfrotto tripod btw? any cons to getting it? i went to cathay at marina, found that the 055x prob one- quite heavy, i don't think i'ld like to carry it around.

Everyone:
so where do you guys buy tripod and tripod heads? from clubsnappers or shops? would like to know. that'll be interesting... planning on getting one. and tight with my money... arh. not too nice a feeling.

just wondering, coz i don't own a dry cab... do u still need to use silica gel and place them in the dry cab?

if you go back in this thread, i gave a review on the $88 tripod i bought. its decent and i think its a steal for its price.

nope juz plug it in and there's a dehumidifier (i think) to remove the moisture... very low consumption so dun worry on the electrical bill

Since some of you here are interested in the fancier FT6662A tripod and there are no reviews on CS, i'd give it a shot and write my 1st review. Please forgive me if my review is not as in depth or as informative as others found on here. Comments most welcome.

The technical stats of the tripod can be found on the tagotech website itself, at http://store.tagotech.com/product_in...roducts_id=203

Sections: 4
Folded length (without ball head): 45cm
Folded length (with ball head): 52cm
Max height (centre column extended): 160cm
Max height (centre column lowered): 151cm
Min operating height: 20cm
Weight: 1.3kg
Max Load: 8kg (ideal load < 4kg)

Background:
For me, the tripods I have handled includes the SLIK Sprint Pro and the Manfrotto 190xprob. Both belongs to my friend and I have borrowed the SLIK tripod when we went for shoots together. My experience with the SLIK tripod forms the basis of my judgement for the 6662A tripod.

My camera setup is basically and usually the 450D body (w/o batt grip) and the EF100mm f2.8 macro lens. The 100mm lens weighs around 600g and is my heaviest and longest lens. When I used my setup on the SLIK, I had to exert a lot of force to tighten the ball head screw so that the camera can stay in position; especially if the camera is facing 45 degrees downwards. When fully extended, the SLIK tripod wasn't very stable and would shake if you handled your camera. However, the SLIK tripod is extremely short (<50cm long) and light (800g), which makes it an ideal travel tripod.

When I decided to get a tripod, I wanted to get a short and light tripod that could withstand around 3.5kg of weight so that I could bring it overseas for traveling with a travel lens. I still have the intention of buying a bigger and sturdier tripod in future to support bigger and heavier lenses I will be buying in future, yet I don't want this tripod to go to waste and become a white elephant. Hence, I decided to get a tripod that is short (~50cm), light (<1.5kg) and cheap (<$150). I also prefer tripods with snap locks because they are faster to deploy. Hence, my choices narrowed down to SLIK Sprint Pro, Manfrotto 725B, and this FT6662A.

Unfortunately, the SLIK and Manfrotto tripods weren't available, so I had to take a gamble and buy this, since it was only $88. Now that it has arrived, I tried it and found it to satisfy all my criteria, so I'm happy with my purchase.

Pros & Cons of the Fancier FT6662A tripod:

Pros:
Cheap ($88)
Light (1.2kg)
Short (52cm)
Able to be deployed to 20cm
Snap lock legs
Quick release plate and ball head can sustain >3.5kg
Comes with compass and spirit bubble
Bag with strap provided

Cons:
Centre column has 2 locks which makes it difficult to deploy quickly
Workmanship not as good as branded tripods
Quick release not very smooth to operate
Rubber on the legs are too big
Design of rubber ends might trap mud
No hook at centre column to hang extra weight to make tripod more stable
Unstable when fully deployed

Summary
The build is quite sturdy and I actually think it is more stable than the SLIK tripod. It can sustain my setup effortlessly and the ball doesn't move even if I use force to pull the camera. In this aspect it is way better than SLIK. It is small and light enough to carry around yet sturdy enough for basic camera setups. The Manfrotto 725B is the same in this aspect but it cannot be deployed to 20cm. The price of the Manfrotto is $150 as compared to $88 for this one. However, the drawback would be the workmanship which I find not to be as good and as durable as Manfrotto or SLIK products. The quick release mechanism doesn't look very smooth (even though it works well), and the centre column takes time to deploy.

My opinion:
This sounds cliche, but I think whether or not to get this tripod depends on what you are going to use it for. If this is going to be your one and only tripod, I'd suggest spending more and getting a proper tripod once and for all. If you are looking for a travel tripod, I'd recommend the Manfrotto 725B, which costs $150. Personally, I feel it is up to you to judge if the difference in quality and build of the Manfrotto and this model is worth paying the extra $62 (I obviously don't think it is). The bag that comes with it looks pretty decent too.

The bottomline: If you have a very expensive camera setup, don't buy this. Go for the big sturdy tripods. Otherwise, this should serve most of your needs and is a steal for the price if you are looking for a decent travel tripod that can support a basic dSLR setup.

Hope you guys find this helpful. """

Erm i 2 questions here:

Q1--- What would be your ideal 'basic DSLR setup' ?

Q2--- Would you know if this $88 deal is still on?
