The battery grip cannot help to give a better balance?
Will u sell off your battery grip?
I am interested at that if you wanna sell it.

See how bah.... Still seeing the situation now
The grip gave a bit of balance. But the holding part it is like holding a rod instead of a proper grip.

straining as in? weight distribution? :dunno:

I had a similar problem too. The grip is somewhat small for my palm and I cannot wrap my last finger nicely around it. Although people often whine about the large size of DSLRs, sometimes size helps in stability, esp in terms of a huge comfy grip that you can wrap your hand around fully to establish a good hold.

ya, i know. Was just wondering cause i also have the problem. After awhile my arm gets tired also. :bsmilie:

Guys, was just trying out some shots of my chess set but it not seem to turn out quite what I expected. Any advice on improving the shots? Glass doesn't seem to be a very easy subject to shoot.

Thanks all!:)

Mind posting your settings?
I think your depth of field (DOF) is really small (eg. due to a large aperture setting), and that renders a large portion of your image out of focus.
Don't know if that is your intention or not, but IMO the pics prob would have benefited from a larger DOF.

Same. Perhaps you may benefit from a good neck or hand strap to take the strain off your arm. I know the default Canon one wasn't doing it for me so I bought myself an Op-Tech strap and that made alot of difference when I neck sling my cam.

But after using it for awhile... I realised I would much prefer a hand strap instead. =)
More $$$ to spend... lol.

i using optech also :p.

I just wonder about what is the ISO setting that you all will use.
I always use the Auto ISO for indoor shoot and normal shoot.
Will use ISO 100 for outdoor shoot when the light is bright enough.

Outdoor 100 - 200

Indoor 400 800. I wont hesitate to use 1600 also

I go for martin instead... The optech look very oobiang xD

I use only the original Canon one.
Not so useful and low quality feel.
How much will it cost for martin or optech?

MArtin 20 + or 25... Optech should be more ex I think. The original one chaff skin ... ouch

Not just chaffing of skin. More impt for me is that the alternative straps are more effective in distributing the weight load.

Optech claims that it greatly lessens the strain you feel on your neck and in my experience, it really does what it claim. The first time I placed it on, I was like... :o

Skin chaffing is quite irritating.
Is Optech really so good?
Tempting to buy one to have a better feel.
Where do you guys buy that from?

Hammie is right. Having used the 450D for months, my most commonly used ISO values are 800 and 1600 (cos I'm predominantly a night shooter). I can say that if you get a correct exposure and don't pixel peep: then for making small prints/images ISO 1600 is totally acceptable.

I find Auto ISO to be suboptimal, not just in the 450D, but in most Canon DSLRs (if only they can nail it like the Nikons). Prob with Auto ISO for the 450D at least is that even when you have abundant light, the camera will still use a lowest ISO of 400 (correct me if I'm wrong).

That's not to say Auto ISO is useless. It's not.
Just that it may not give you the best results sometimes.

I bought mine from John 3:16 (they only carry OpTech). ;)
Don't know how the martin is like, but my guess is it will still beat the Canon hands down.

You can try these straps out next time you go into any shop.
But don't blame us if you end up walking out with it hor.... :D

yes, the auto ISO seems to like 400. I usually use 100 - 200 outdoors and 400 - 800 indoors, 1600 when really lighting cannot make it. Honestly i seldom use 1600. lol

I also think that the ISO 1600 is quite acceptable also for small prints up to A4 size.
In fact, 30% to 40% out of my photos taken with 450D till now are ISO 800 and ISO 1600.

Regarding to the auto ISO, I think the lowest ISO that it will give you is ISO 200.
When the light is bright enough, I can get the ISO 200 from the auto ISO setting.
However, whenever it is allowed, I prefer to take the ISO 100 for better dynamic range.:)

can i join the 450 club??

me also own one as well...bought it at the last fair..:)

and already caught the bbb virus liao...

I will try hard to bear with the Canon one for a while.
I wish to buy the 430EXII flash first before buying the other accessory.
