well at least its spontaneous kind of photography....i cringe everytime something which was blatantly posed or staged. Or did i assumed it wrong, it wasn't a street photography kind of competition?

i started to hate photos of jumping people after one slideshow screening...haaa
copycat shots of the winning msian marathon photo of jumping msia flag man? haaa :bsmilie:

This is not a street photography kind of competition. This is a photography competition, so u can shoot street, abstracts and still life, macros, posters and photos, studio, landscape, architecture, model shoot, wedding, artistic, nudes, reportage, sports, underwater, etc...as long as it fits the theme and the judges like it ;)

nudes ?

thanks for the info! was just curious.. overhead many non-canon users expressing their unhappiness when they saw some of the winning entries pasted on the wall... tat's y, i dunno whether they were shot by Canon users or not in the 1st place.. anyway, let's not discuss wat motivated their comments.. :)

i only drank 1 pack of milk, shared 1 cup of ice cream with my gf, n drank plenty of ice mountain.. lol..

ummm... I saw one of the category winner using Nikon leh. ;)

the only nearly nudes photo that i saw is the pantless guy on the toilet *please put puking emoticon here*

btw likepeas... resize your photo first lor... too bigggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg...

It was a great event, well organized and the winning photos were great for the theme, especially the youth's inputs, very promising.

I just wish guys would just stop whining and have that sore-loser attitude so often, even during the slide presentation, people were snickering etc...

Just be grateful that Canon has done something like this for not only their customers, but to photographers as a whole around the world for free (the 10 bucks is donation, remember).

Lots of stuff can be learned from this... especially with such intense competition/volume... if you're humble enough to admit it.

Ahh.... OSIM iSqueeze.... Ahhh

oic thanks for the update.
but shooting posters and photos, wouldnt that be vulnerable to kena sue by their respective companies? Or issit must reproduce the entire poster then you are liable to be sued? Or what about doing a photo-copy of a notable photographer's work? :dunno:

If u have chance to see last years selected entries, u will know what I mean by shooting posters (or adverts on the street). Makes me want to shoot posters this year for all the themes. Like I say, as long as the judges like it, anything goes.

ah i c.... but im new to this competition, lack of references (even googled), would you have samples of your works to better explain this to me? thanks! much appreciated. :D

which brings me to the question... just being curious.. any non-canon user won top in any of the themes in any category? or even any prize at all?

Yup i'm one of them :D just to express my happiness only huh not to brag or anything. I was using a Nikon D50 though under the youth cat. My first time joining too :)

It's quite true that the judges don't based it on brands or whatsoever if not it will be solely a Canon brand competition and not a photography competition.

But overall i think the organizers did a good job. Especially the ice cream. haha

Well competition is never fair , its usually bias because of personal preferences and standards coming from the individual judges , just like what u may feel is gd doesn't means that others will agree with you and vice versa ...

Why are you the participant ? Because you are not the judge .

Live with it and be "open" with the results , learn from it as winning doesn't mean u need to take good solid shots BUT effective ones ...

Better luck next year :) Cheers .

ah youth cat won by who and what pic?

Youth cat won by a 14 yr old.....who just picked up photography this year....but with a great appetite to learn, ..am excited for him cos he's my student...haha....was with him during the duration of the marathon, and I should have submitted the shot I took of him out on the assignment for the theme passion...he sure has loads of passion for the craft.

Had to go off and didn't get to see the results. So which are the winning pics?
Congrads to all the prize winners!

BTW, here's my submissions...

Danny, Glad that yr student won. Great Teacher produce Great Student.

Yesterday must be a strange day for the kids at vivocity and youth skate park, cause they area was overan by photographs. Very much like paparrazi. :)

Anyway lots of learning points for a first timer like me, just to share.

1) Study the edges of the viewfinder properly before pressing the shutter- lots of pics with "good moments" were ruined by distracting elements at the side. I felt crippled without the cropping tool yesterday.

2) Choose entries carefully-sometimes I was torn between submitting a "safe" photo and a "contraversall " photo. wasn't too convince of my selection on hindsight.

3) Be more familar with shooting locations around the competion area - photogs with no car will tend to congregate in the popular shooting spots nearby. Might need to be slighty more creative to stand out.
