Canon EOS SLR system NEWBIE guide.

I'm a noob! I want to buy lens/es of a range of zoom range. Which combination do you think is better? :)

1) EFS 17-85 f/4-5.6 IS USM

or

2) EFS 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS + EFS 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS

and may i know the (dis)advantages of EFS over EF lenses?
thank you!!:)

EFS lenses can only use in xxD and xxxD body only...

what lense you should get depends on what kind of images u like shooting. Wide lenses for landscape, zoom lenses for architectual, prime lense for portraits and things like that.

on a general advice, i would suggest you get combo number 2, you get to cover the range from 18mm to 250mm.

One disadvantage of the EFS 17 - 85 lense is that the aperture cant get wider then f/4, which is a big problem in low light condition, HOWEVER, it provides a good zoom range from 17mm to 85mm for conveniency. So it's really up to your prefernce.

:D

50mm F1.8 mk II for $100 ?

may i know where to get?

I think usually those are 2nd hand prices.

Hi everyone,

I just got my DSLR a month ago, still new to the DSLR field, i am not too sure whether there are much difference in the picture quality between the 18-55mm kit lens and the 18-55mm IS kit lens. Is it a good suggestion to trade for an IS lens???

in case u din know, IS means Image Stabilisation. It's when u need to use long exposure, the IS will prevent too much motion blur caused by ur camera if u handheld it.

it's pretty expensive so i wont advise u to get a IS, unless u think a tripod wont suit u better.

You will need an 18mm (or similar wide angle) for landscape. A worthy all-in-one walk around would be the Sigma 18-200 with OS (Optical Stabilizer). I've had both versions before (with and without OS), and would say that this is good enough for starts.

Couple with a flash, you'll do ok. However, there will be a shadow cast when using this lens with a flash.

Don't think your 50mm will be wide enough for some shots. Depending on the lighting conditions, you can do without a flash. I managed with a F2.8 in sg expo without flash.

Hi,

I just recently bought a 450D 18mm-55mm lens. However, I am the kind who would like to bring the camera around without having to bring such a big camera case. Would like to ask, how do I bring the camera around, i.e. i would like to put it in my bag when I'm not using it, without all the bulky cases?

Many thanks! :)

i'm sure u were given a canon camera bag along with with ur camera purchase. that bag is portable enough for ur body and kit lens.. if not get one of those toploader series bag from lowepro.

75mm-300mm gives you more zoom...but it starts from 75 mm/..so can only take stuff further away...
I heard the 75-300 lens isnt that great optics (some expert can verify this)

It depends on what you shoot..

thanks for the answer. well i want to buy the 450d but ill guess ill go for 1000d.
