Hi,
Welcome to the Canon Family. By getting a external flash, you can reduced the shadow and harsh lighting provided you use a diffuser or bounce the flash. For the 400D, 430ex is sufficent. 580EX may be too heavy.

430ex is gd enough, unless extra range is needed, then get the 580ex ii..

430Ex is good for 40D and 400D, u can get 580EX as well.. save on upgrading on flash unit.

Ya. there a few type. You can pick and choose the one u preferred. Or you can use a bounce card. Btw if you got 40D den maybe the 580exII will suit u better

There are omni-bounce, lightsphere for u to choose from..

Cathay photo sells all the diffusers mentioned here..

for portrait indoors, use lightsphere or whale tail would better. both products are from garyfong. =)

i buy from cathay, i find my sales executive, good service and price is reasonable. I buy overseas if i want low low prices.

as for SLS, i steer clear from buying there. =)

Does anyone tamper with their Picture style detail set?

-Sharpness
-Contrast
-Saturation
-Color Tone

Is there a guide for how each option affects the photo?

the user guide has given a good write out on each setting. =)

hi guys....

i have just gotten an old EOS 300 SLR from a relative... looks and feels really cool...

the camera has an old EF lens attached to it...

i am still very new to SLR, so would like to know if i can fit the newer EF lens (especially those with USM and IS) to the EOS 300 body....

suppose it does fit nicely, would the AF process of the newer lens be fast? (i tried doing AF using the attached lens, and it doesnt seem to focus nicely... the process is slow and inaccurate...)

thanks...

Good evening everyone

I'm considering getting a EOS 1v or EOS 3 in lieu of a 5D.

Where can I try out either of these cameras? No one seems to be selling either in the BnS section at the moment.

I've seen quite a large range of pricing on the net, but I'm assuming the EOS 1v to be about $1000, and the EOS 3 to be around $700?

Lastly, are there any other brand's SLR that work with EF mount?

Thanks

hey guys,

not very new here, got my canon 400d last june with tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 len and was think if getting a flash unit... should i get the 430ex or 580ex II???

and should i get a canon 50mm prime len or the canon 70-200mm f4 L IS len???

please advice

thanks alot!

for flash, 430ex would be sufficient for most purposes ie. events and outdoor shoots. 580ex has further range and faster recharges between each shots.

as for 50mm or 70-200mm f/4l is usm, u need to decide what u intend to shoot and get a suitable lens. =
