guys, say for the tamron 17-50 & kit lens 18-55, if i don't use the f2.8 @ 50mm zoom for the tamron, and i do like wise on my kit lens, would the pic b any difference, say all the rest of the settings are the same, aperture, time, angle etc. i'm just trying to understand this constant aperture advantage over a non and how it relates to quality of pictures produced etc. thanks again for all the replies in advance!! :)

What aperture do you intend to use with the Tamron at 50mm and kit lens at 50mm?

At the same focal length, the view is almost the same else identical. Given the same aperture say f/8.0, the time required for both lenses @ 50mm will be the same as well (given the same shooting condition for both lenses).

Its the sharpness etc that determines their difference in quality. :o That said, Tamron is better.

recommendations do make hearts itch. someone recommended tamron 70-300mm to me. and after knowing <$300 it has been stuck in my brain till now. ok..maybe i have bad will power haa...

but hor, i just called cp-p, cp-ms, mscolor, all dont carry this range leh. has it gone into extinction? my intention is to buy tomolo de lor. i cldn't get j3:16. any other place to recommend?

:bsmilie: The "BBB" love is so great!

Call OP. ;)

ok... then is there any relation to picture sharpness in terms of a constant aperture to a kit then? what determines the sharpness of pic other then eliminating handshake and what so others that we can control ah? lens build quality?

If given a choice of Canon 40D and the Canon 50D. Which one should i go for?

There isn't much relation between constant aperture to the picture's sharpness as far as I know.

You can control Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO. Also, make sure you use the correct AF point! :bsmilie:

Lens build hardly makes a diff though.

:bsmilie: The logic is as simple as comparing between 400D and 450D.

so with the same handling technique, and all other settings i can set, on top of all these, sharpness of a picture can be due to the lens being, er sharper then others? :embrass: no other explainations as to why a picture can be sharper then another taken on a cheaper (not so sharp lens?) hope i'm not confusing u..

:bsmilie: Well, to put it in short, there will be difference between lens that is sharp (at least indicated by review) against lens that is not sharp.

Same focal length, aperture, shutter speed and ISO, the one that's sharp will still outshine the other lens. Its that simple. ;)

oooh! get it now! so can safely say lens like the tamron 17-50 outshine the kit lens not just the ability to perform better under low light, but also it just produces sharper photos?

oooh! get it now! but i would assume lenses that command a hefty price tag SHOULD come with better build and of cuz all that low f stops and what others like e IS, USM. thus aiding photographer in getting a supposedly better pictures?

hmm, am i treading into the Good Gears != good pictures realm?

:bsmilie: Expensive doesn't equate to "God-Like" lens.

IS and USM are technologies that made the lens much efficient and user-friendly. Wide aperture (low aperture value) helps photographers to take picture in low-light condition. Of course it works with a combination of ISO and other factors as well.

Hm...., no worries, we'll spread the "BBB" love to you and you'll be buying more lenses! Who knows we might have to borrow some lenses from you!

definitely 50D....lighter...:)
Hmm...sad...don't think i'll be able to afford that in 1 and 1/2 months. Not even a Nikon D90....:(....

Now hoping can at least afford tamron 17-50mm + Nissin Flash by my birthday....hmm...

:bsmilie: Yeah. Many go "gaga" over Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8, didn't they?

and most of the photos here aren't from my dslr so yup, not necessarily true with regards to that statement
Which plate do you need. Your tripod head can fit any type of plates? I'm going down to John 3:16 on wednesday. I'll check it out for you, if you give me the details. :)

the tamron 17-50 is a good and sharp lens but you must choose carefully. I have wanted to buy the tamron but in the end choose a used canon 17-55mm..
