My mistake on the "not even digits" with regards to code for this lens, just noticed that there is a 10-digit code printed quite faintly above the Canon Inc words, the same number as in the barcode on the box.. Besides this, there is no indication that it is a version 2 but the 5D Mk III confirms it when u go into the menu. So I guess if one is buying a second hand copy of the MK2 24-70mm, one needs to check that this code is there and not the presence of the U-series code. I hv no version 1 to compare but the AF is really fast.

The other way is the obvious difference in filter size(77mm vs 82mm) and of course the hood size.

Oops, the only outside indication that it is a mark 2 is at filter thread area. I hv the hood mounted all along n too excited to check there.

Erm guys, the physical difference is VERY obvious between the Mark 1 and Mark 2 already

So who already bought it? Who intends to buy it? Personally, i am looking at the Mark 1 used price to drop abit more before getting it. Current used M1 at B&S between $1300-1800...

Price abit steep for the mk2...it's like buying another 70-200 2.8..think we'll wait till next year. By then hopefully the price will go down abit

I doubt it will go down much so soon, maybe in 5 years +.

Haha well might as well get the mk 1 then..or give it a skip...but well i don't need it atm..need to get myself a proper full frame or aps h body.=D..1dmk4 then ill consider getting bombastic lenses..

One will not really kn the difference of whether it is Mk 1 or 2 if never seen n inspect either before just by casual inspection.
