Canon EF 24-70 VERSION 2 WHEN?

put IQ aside, I actually very much prefer the Mk1... love the big hood, love the inverse zoom + clever hood design. The 24-70L Mk1 is one of the rare lens that Canon seem to have "over-manufactured".

fully agree with you. totally love the mk1's hood, it's "big" and provides ample protection. The big hood with inverse zoom made this one of the rare lens that the hood provides ample shade from the widest end to the tightest end (since most hoods for zooms only provide best shade for widest end).

see user review that it feels plastic.. kind of a shame. I guess that's the reason why a 2nd hand mk1 remains high priced in the 2nd hand market.

^^ I guess you mean over-engineered.

lolz yeah! thanks for the correction. another "over-engineered" lens is the 70-300L haha! It is like wrapping glass elements in a bomb-shelter-like like outer casing.

For me I'm the fact that it feels more "plastic".

Sure it doesn't have the heft and "feeling of reliability" the mk 1 (I do find the 24-105 does feel like a toy as well) does but if it means that it's more resistant to scratches and knocks, I'm all for it.

I also like the oversized hood design, but it's always such a pain to find a space for it in my camera bag.

What I am interested in is if the camera can do 70mm like the 70-200 f2.8II. That has always been my biggest complaint about the 24-70 mk 1 - it's weak 70mm (vis a vis 70-200).

If it nears or matches the quality (as initial reports coming in seem to suggest) of the 70-200 II, I'll gladly lap it up! lol.

How come no one bot n post smethg abt the lens here yet.Street price 28xx to 3300. Already in stores or sold out.

Official launch in Singapire is tmr Fri 7 Sep accordg to Canon Sing

One lens for travel?

No lah.

The best one lens solution is the 28-300L!

Too heavy....

It all depends on the purpose of travel. If you are travelling for photographic opportunities, I'm sure you will bring your entire kit.

If it is for relaxation or with family, I don't think you'll need a 70-200. An UWA and low-light prime like 35L/50L are good enough.

Touring with family, I say just bring a standard zoom..... no time for anything else......

Anyone spot the new lens at authorised dealer today? I called one but said stock not in yet.

I checked and landing tomorrow......

I just bought the lens and the ST-E3-RT about 2 hours ago at a local shop. Canon Singapore allocated only 4 of this lens to them, I bought the 1st piece and 5 mins later, another gentleman bought the 2nd.

Congrat to your new "Red Ring" :)Show some pics and review ok?

Congrats on being early adopter. Do share with us your review.

I suspect street price to be ard 2.8k ? Add 82mm UV, CPL filters more likely 3k.
