Guys, you ended up meeting at The Green Pavillion !!! Its a different entrance..

We went to the visitors centre as directed in the post. Even asked the receptionist if it was the visitor's centre. If there are other visitor's centre's or there are many parts of the visitor's centre then the post should have made it clear or someone should have been sent to check out other possible areas. There were 10 to 15 persons there.

So lackadasical in there treatment of users who bother to take the time to come and see their product.

I was there at the Visitor's Centre at 9.30a.m this morning... the Canon guys were already there with the models and standing by with the EOS 500D cameras and a whole assortment of lenses. Reservoir88, I think you went to the wrong entrance... there's only one Visitor's Centre in the whole of Botanic Gardens. While waiting for the others to come, the Canon guys even let the models to pose for us.

The visitors centre we went had a cafe and a shop on both sides. It is the place where cars drop passengers. There were 10 to 15 other guys waiting for the shoot there. We asked the receptionist at the information counter who confirmed that that was the visitors centre. I was there before 9.30am but did not see any Canon people.

That's interesting, cuz we're there until 10a.m before we moved on to the other parts of the park. Well... nevermind... I did enjoy myself today with the other guys. And Canon did say that we're welcome to come to the other session next Sat. So Reservior88, hope you can join us next week at Fort Canning. We're meeting at the white house on the top of the hill at Fort Canning. Just come with your SD card... everything else is provided by the Canon guys... :)

This is where you guys met. This is the Green Pavillion that houses the visitor's service desk. The Visitor Centre is another place where they drop the tourists off and it has a large clock in it. There is only one Visitor's Centre in the whole of Singapore botanical gardens.

Just FYI

I wasted one good Saturday morning waiting for the organiser to appear. Gave up at 10.30 am. Even if they made an appearance one would have no mood to continue.

Don't know if this is an official Canon event but if it is then they have made a big bungle. There were at least 10 to 15 persons waiting and some of them own other brands. They wanted to look at the new 500D and perhaps would be interested to buy one. But then , maybe Canon is not interested.

They did'nt even have the courtesy to send someone to explian the "no show". I hadn't expected this kind of organisation and attitude from Canon. Very disappointing to all their loyal users.

What time did you arrive? :dunno:

Hi Darren & all,

My friends and I were at the Visitor Centre about 0940hrs. Refer to the map below. There is a reception counter and a big clock at the centre.

Didn't see any models nor any gatherings. Only see senior citizens there doing "tai chi". Did we went to the wrong place?:dunno: We circle around the area but didn't see anyone. Really want to see the 500D but end up going home disappointed. If we are all at the correct place, are you guys sitting inside the cafe?

Do clarify. Thanks.

Was there at 8.40. Had breakfast at the Cafe.

There were folks doing tai chi opposite the Cafe (i.e. next to the Souvenir Shop).

Finished breakfast about 9.10. Walked up the path where another group was doing Tai Chi. Then returned to the Plaza around 9.30 am. Did not see any Canon people.

Just FYI

We were at the place shown in the 2nd set of photos.

I guess that the confusion arises because it was not explicitly stated clearly by Canon on the exact location.

There are 2 main entrances to SBG.

The first way is via the Orchard way, which is besides Gleneagles Hospital. For those who are taking buses, you will need to alight outside British Council or Gleneagles Hospital. And for those who are driving, you can park your car at the basement car park below the Geen Pavilion. There is an Information Counter there. Also, there is a food court below.

The second way is via the Bukit Timah Road. If you are taking bus, you will need to alight outside old NIE. From there, it is a long walk to SBG. If you are driving, then you are drive all the way into the car park besides the Visitor Centre.

As shown in the photo, there is a big clock at the Visitor Centre. There is also a cafe there.

Therefore, based on the above evidence, it is clearly that the Canon event was held at the Green Pavilion, and not at the Visitor Centre.

By the way, I did not attend the event.

Map of the Botanical garden. The visitor's centre is in the central core.

I was at Botanical Garden this morning, saw the Canon Folks in the Food Court (near the Gleneagles Hospital) having breakfast at about 9:15 am. I didn't join the EOS500D session but I saw them at the visitor centre (above the foodcourt) at 10:00 am.

Checking back on this thread, I only see that Darren only mentioned Vistor's Centre, but no mention of which one by him. Probably the confusion came after K3N posted the SBG map link indicating the central core which shows clearly that there is only 1 Vistor's Centre.

Probably the organisers should provide clear instructions to the Exact Location or at least a map to avoid possible misunderstandings. Thinking ahead, fort canning also very big, so better confirm the location first.

So... Canon mistook the Green Pavilion as the Visitor Center!? What a bummer to those who showed up and wasted their time.... maybe Canon can offer a discount for these poor folks...

It was darn hot this morning - BTW I did not go for this.... I was at East Coast actually....:)

A VERY BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!! with the organizer of this event.

1st. Meeting point was not stated until the night before the event.

2nd Organizer stated the meet-up point but go to the another meeting point (failure to set a proper and clear cut meeting point

3rd Organizer never provide any point of contact or instruction on how to identify the organizers

I believe that the organizer owes alot of people a apologies. as alot people when to the actual visitor center in SBG as stated by the organizer and waited well past 10am. many of us went round to confirm and talk to suspected CS members that were there for the event.
counting myself, there were at least 10 people that felt like fools waiting there.

Organizer pls clarify this issue.

Having helped out one of the hands-on outings, this is clearly very disappointing. Never had expected such a screw-up. Firstly, this thread was set-up merely a couple of days back (probably already a tell-tale sign of bad downstream communication to the TS). Secondly, the meeting location is only confirmed the night before the event (while there has been some assumption/miscommunication on the exact meeting location as was relayed to the TS). Lastly, I have not seen the effort to leave a point of contact in case of emergencies...

I'm not trying to find fault with anybody here specifically as I appreciate the effort that was taken to execute the event out. I just hope that the organizing parties will be able to give it more thoughts and learn from this unforseen circumstance for future events.

I still cannot forget an army lingo, don't ASSUME, 'cos it makes an ASS out of U & ME

Any news on when it will be launched in Singapore ?

Benares, I was about to write the ASS U & ME thing. ;) Thanks to the organiser, I think Alex is going for D90!

So that was why my wife and I spent the morning waiting for them....

We came in from Napier Road entrance, walked past the Taman Serasi food court, picked up a map there at 9.10am, then walked all the way to Visitor Centre.... waited until 10.20am, sianz, so went off.... same as the others, asked the information desk girl who confirmed this was the Visitor's Centre.

A bit disappointed that there were so many - 1 guy carrying a Canon camera with Canon EOS strap, 1 guy with camera and cap, 4 guys who came, milled around then went to the carpark to get tripod+camera after waiting, and a few more who were obviously waiting. I was the guy sitting at the clock with my wife....waiting and waiting.

End up going to Vivocity for lunch, then popped by the Canon showroom to test the 500D. Lucky nobody around when it opened, so could spend a good 15-20 mins to handle it - lucky cos they only had 1 500D on display for hands-on.

Still, a trip wasted especially in the sweltering heat...

hmm....there is still an opportunity mah this sat....i waited a while then i go around botanic garden for a walk for opportunity to shoot and i see them shooting with the 500D....just a small miscom i guess..
