Canon BG-E11

I still feel it'll be over $10k, maybe around $11k? I'm just speculating.

That would be the first time SG price > JPY ;p

JPY is $648,000

2 weeks ago in Nagoya I saw a popular store selling pre-order price 599,000. Yodobashii is similar to this price of 648,000 and is not the cheapest.

But also need to consider any hidden costs or taxes? :dunno:

yup, depends on shops, some may charge their version of "GST" on the price tag. the pic I took was from Yodobashii @ Tokyo when I was there in March. JPY648,000 was the RRP.

This web is a good web, but mainly for street price. What I usually do is to use JP's RRP and apply the historical % difference between JP's RRP VS SG's RRP, then apply the usual street price discount. (refer to my earlier thread about 1DX and 5D3).

I use those data to predict 5D3's launch RRP to be between $4,500-$4,999 which proved to be pretty accurate, as the launch RRP was $4,699 :)

Received a call from Canon SG to explain on the BG-11 issue:

1) Canon SG has no say in the amount of BG-11 that gets shipped here. It's all decided by Canon JP.

2) The reason why Canon JP produced this little amount of BG is in accordance to their view that, not all consumers will use the various accessories offered and also, cos we will change our camera here and there and we can't reuse the accessories anymore (ie. BG-E6 can't be used on 5D3).

3) Canon SG confirmed that Authorized Dealers cannot sell Canon products above the Recommended Retail Price, and RRP is already inclusive of GST. Canon SG does not condone their dealers selling it above RRP, nor holding stocks intentionally to sell it above RRP.

4) They have no idea when the next shipment from Canon JP will come. Can only check with them again early June, as shipment schedule will only come at last day of the month.

:bsmilie: why don't you buy from Digitalrev? Only U$425 with free shipping!

lol that's above SG RRP if you factor in GST :bsmilie:

nah.. I'll either wait for future shipments, or see if my Japanese teacher can help me buy during his July trip, or if not, if my Sept trip to Tokyo is approved, I buy there myself.. :bsmilie:

DDelectronics has it for S$485, maybe you can call them to check how long is the lead time?

I think shouldn't be a problem getting the BG overseas since accessories do not come with any warranty in the first place. :)

Precisely.

$485 is still too pricey, if get in JPY it's under $400 :D

One bro here informed me that he obtained a reserved copy from local dealers at approx $400.

No point paying so high.

i will wait for the 3rd party version, currently see that on pre-order status only on Ebay, shall wait for users to receive stock and look at reviews before deciding.

hey bro digital rev has custom taxes (GST) inclusive in their prices.

That's quite the norm for all 5D series batt grips.

first few batches maybe? I know one bro got the BG-E11 at approx $400.

I think it's just that shops want carrot us :bsmilie:

I know they're all expensive as compared to other BGs becos of their metal construction and built. Shops definitely want to earn as much as they can cos it's business after all. ;)

any idea if the camera will be less "water resistant" with the BG-11? Since it open up the battery compartment ?

Yes that is right.

I thought even the batt grip is weather resistant. :D

The grip is weather resistant as claimed by Canon, but the thing is the entry point of the battery grip to the battery slot of the cam isn't sealed with foams or things the-like. IDK, got to ask those bros who managed to get one to comment.

But let's say if you tightened the grip nicely to the cam, light drizzle shouldn't be a problem..
