Canon BG-E11

:bsmilie: when you walk pass a fish pond with a bag of bread crumbs, do you pour the whole bag into the pond and watch all the fishes eat till they puke or you feed them little bits by bits and watch them fight for their food? :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

Depends on whether your objective is to make customers annoyed (e.g. fish fight), or to milk the pent-up demand and see the cash registers go ka-ching (e.g. fish eat until puke)!! :P

I don't understand why it's easier for Canon to manufacture the 5D3 body in greater quantities and to push them out to the market so much faster than the grip itself.

I have to agree with esoeji bro. I simply cannot understand this low level of stock. Just when we praised Canon for a good 5D3 launch, Canon back tracked with this crap.

The latest info I have is each dealer only have limited stock. Max probably is 5. The reputable ones as usual, reserved for their regulars, but may have problem answering to some who preordered long ago.

What about those other dealers? They are hiding their stock. I have learnt that they are releasing secretly at above RRP, as high as 599. Why? Because no stock, they can quote anyhow they like.

This is what happens. This shop that I know of, is also holding off D800 stocks and sell at 4999 and above. Appears that there are other authorized dealers doing such thing.

Is Canon, and even Nikon condoning a black market rising out of this?

While most sensible ones would simple walk away and not buy, but some rich ones are paying it, allowing the dealers to further control prices via supply. Whats the purpose of RRP when we are being asked to pay more?

I have already asked Canon SG office to explain on the poor show and what's their stand on black markets by their authorized dealers.

It is prob because most of the stock is held by Canon SG for the people who attended the 5DM3 launch and have the special promotion letter for the grip which allows them to buy it at a nice discount. Most would have registered their intention to get the grip with Canon and should have gotten the phone call from them yesterday telling them that stocks had arrived. I collected mine today. Zero hassle.

The special offer should have been classified as another group. What about their largest group of consumer base who purchases it through the various authorized dealerships? Unless you mean what Canon is hinting is that those people who are invited to the 5D3 launch are their target base and they do not care about other customers?

It's totally different from the 5D3 launch. They had enough stock for both professionals and also prosumers to get their hands on it. But this time round, it's extremely pathetic. I'm wondering if that would be the same for 1DX.

Aiseh bro you don't need the BG to shoot decent photos right? You sound really desperate... Die die need the grip :p

In a few weeks time you shall see 3rd party BG-E11 flooding the streets :p

if I desperate I could have paid $500 to the bugger dealer and get it just now ;p
he tried to bait me.. "price you ok? you ok I immediately get for you now".
prior to that, they claim no stock wor! then 2 guys like fake fake make call, suddenly got stock wor! buy charge you $500++, you ok, immediately get from you from their dunno where wor, like magic leh! :bsmilie:

of course damn pissed off lah.. imagine after waiting for so long, kena delayed, then what has came is rubbish... sian 1/2. :(

This kind of sales tactic is bad for long term relationship with regular customers.

Honestly I am getting really sick of these stupid camera manufacturers releasing new products in minute quantities. They trying to be like iphone perpetually out of stock is it? Has it become fashionable to be out of stock? Create false over-demand? Dun they know they are fuelling de black market?

agreed. my confidence in their support to their customers is already discounted.

Yup.. at the kind of price they are selling, I must be crazy to buy. I'll look around for a reasonable one or ask if any of my friends who are/will be in Tokyo.. if not if my leave approved I go Tokyo buy myself.. Should be able to get it below $400 there..

Back in 2007 when i bought the BG-E4 for my 5D, was $400. So imagine how much it costed when it was launched in 2005.

I think even the BG-E11 costs between $400-$500, it's normal.

back then 5D was kind of crazy price too :bsmilie:

but things are comparatively cheaper these days, compared to 5D days, even cheaper after factoring inflationary effects on the purchasing power of money.

In any case, anything that is RRP and below is fine with me. But intentionally controlling stock, selling above RRP is just not right.

nowadays if there is demand... the goods will be skyrocketed. wait for the rocket fuel to deplete and you will get cheaper price.... i believe battery grip getting from overseas is much cheaper.

that will depend on when you buy in JPY and BTW

http://www.amazon.co.jp/キヤノン-496099...SX7Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1337963126&sr=8-1

If you use today's bad exchange rate of 1SGD to 62.2JPY, that's still $395

I've previously bought JPY @ 1SGD to 65JPY, which makes it $378 for me.

That's true, but also must take into consideration where the BG-E11 is more advanced in a way it has the joystick incorporated onto it for example. The BG-E4 is made from magnesium alloy so presumably it should be the same for the BG-E11.

Over the years, technology and design advances, and this are some of the benefits.........

yup... technology wise, 5D3 is way ahead of 5DC but I've heard you said you paid $6,999 for your 5DC back then? :(

Really one heaven one earth.

So i feel that the high cost of the BG-E11 justifies for its features and built, which has been the norm for all 5D series.
