All the new batteries are lithium ion batteries that do not require a full discharge. In fact, frequent full discharges should be avoided. For more info on lithium based batteries, read up here... http://batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-34.htm

Most shops does that to each other actually.

Btw, does anyone has any inkling when the battery grip for the 7D will arrive at the shops?

Yes, I'd like to know too. After shooting with my gripped 400D with a year, shooting portraits with a gripless 7D now is a nightmare.
I do not know if any has tried challenger..normally we dont, and I don't as well...except for the shop next to AP.
However, after visiting AP(price different from previous quote), dropped into J316 (too busy, price anyway higher than AP), then browsed around shop...was surprised that challenger gave the best price of all...however, not sure if you get the same level of service: will try again for 7D now that it is launched.

i'm using the phottix 3rd party battery on my 5dmk2, bought from red dot photo. working quite well now.. can last at least 500 shots... u can roughly estimate the battery life based on the number of exposures since last charge... it's only $25 a piece (with charger), i can buy 5 pieces of this vs 1 original from canon... and based on my previous experience with canon batteries, they don't outlast the 3rd party ones (e.g. eastgear, camera devices) esp the NP-E2 and the BP-511 series.
Today just went to one of the most reliable camera shop at JB.
I just know that Canon Malaysia is offering 3 years warranty for online registration of the camera gears.
This is applied to all the camera bodies and lenses that are purchased before 2010.
7D will most likely available in JB around 10 Oct and the price is about RM6000 with 3 years warranty.
Seems like it is a good deal which is similar to SG price but with 2 more years warranty.
Maybe can consider to get the 7D from that shop later.

Very tempted to check out the shop at JB but I am just thinking it would be so troublesome to go back there for any issue. Unless its cheaper by ALOT ALOT

Anyone gotten the battery grip yet?
Got my BG-E7 yesterday... build-quality so so... like BG-E2N.. when attached to 7D, the battery info menu will clearly show the battery lives of both LP-E6, indicating which battery (based on serial no) in either left or right side of the grip has battery life left...
