was just about to dump my 550d for a d90 cos of the feel... now that 60d is out... think would stick to the C camp.. hee...
anyone wan my 1 month old 550D?...

btw when would it be out?... Sept???

I don't think you'll have any problem selling a 550D in the buy n sell section. Usually the new cameras are out within 4 to 6 weeks of their announcements.... so the 60D may start selling at the end of September.

Do you think that the announcements from Canon are over?

There has been a lot of speculation about the Canon G12 which was not announced today. Also the Canon 1Ds Mark IV has been rumoured and talked about for the longest time. And.... dare I say it, even the Canon 5D Mark III has been rumoured.... or is it the long awaited Canon 3D?

Anybody gonna dump their 50D in favour of the 60D?
doesn't seem to be the correct positioning. upgraders of 50D should be looking at 7D instead from the way the specs are aligned.

I agree.... there's a few things going in favour of the 50D that still makes it attractive to keep or buy.

Think i will wait till 60D is out to have a direct compassion with 50D. i feel that the feeling of holding the dslr is more important than those upgrade spec over my 500D. 60D imo is a nice upgrade for 500D owner and perfect for 1st time dslr buyer.

Not in a million years! ;)
Ditto. The lack of micro AF adjustment is a deal breaker for me. I didn't know how sharp my 8 years old 28-135mm was until I had it on my 7D and adjusted the AF. It is now on my body more than the 17-55 2.8.

Seriously, really disappointed with the PLASTIC BODY. Now I'm having 2nd thoughts of upgrading my 500D to 60D. I think I should just get a 50D.

IT SHOW is coming up from 2nd Sept to 5th Sept.

Hope they will release soon enough to get a "FEEL"

The specs is very satisfying, but the build is rather unexpected in a bad way. I was expecting the body to be like the 50D.

Looks like canon is not only trying to attract xxxd owners from upgrading, but also trying to push current xxd users to 7d.

Not sure if it is just me, but the buttons and dial on the 60d just doesn't feel canon.

The 9 point af is actually not that bad, considering that it is all cross type, unlike most other in the same class with only 1-3 cross type.

Selling in favour of upgrading to 7D not 60D, 50D to 60D is it an upgrade?? subjective. Definitely a better choice than selling 50D to downgrade to a 550D, as 550D is an entry level and 50D is a semi-pro. Though it is usual that the newer camera to get better spec than the older one, like the 19 focus points of 7D to that of 5D2 but is does not mean selling 5D2 for 7D is an upgrade or 5D2 cannot be considered an upgrade for older 1D MKIII.

I think most of the specs upgrade are quite predictable and expected, such as 18mp, iso 6400, etc.

I am actually excited over some of the good features, such as articulating LCD, the lock on the dial like K-7, the sexy curve, uses LP-E6 battery (that mean another new battery grip :( ) and mostly the new all-in-one multi-controller lot easier now.

However, I am quite disappointed that xxD has now been downgraded to D90 replacement competition, instead of the previous D300 competition with 50D. I heard the D90 replacement is going to be magnesium alloy now ... ha ha .. what an irony.

Frankly the 60D spec seems to has shifted downward (not referring to the upgraded specs as it is typical of refresh for newer model to have the latest specs, like 500D vs 550D),e.g.
1. 50D used to have 2 custom mode C1 and C2, newer 7D and 5D2 has three C1, C2 and C3, new 60D is down to the same as 550D one just "C".
2. Continuous shooting 5.3 fps vs 50D 6.5 fps. Well this is something not many users used but it go to demonstrate the positioning of this product now more of a serious amateur vs a semi-pro camera.
3. CF flash which is shared format amount the semi-pro and pro body like 1D, 5D and 7D, old 50D. 60D is SD card now.
4. Plastic body instead of 50D magnesium alloy body :( Wonder is it still weather and dust resistant like 50D???

I guess we need to wait and see, but well the good news maybe my 50D value probably will not drop much further or too badly now. :)

Hi, The body is polycarbonate + rubber fibre resin is very strong to withstand vibration.
60D is different from A55V which is fun to use, but 60D has a new in-camera Raw processing.

Same old af? No af microadjust? Oh no...

I think that the three most attractive (new) features of the 60D upgrade are:

1. Integrated Speedlite transmitter
2. Articulating screen
3. 7D's HD movie capability

The biggest disappointments are:

1. No micro-adjust

3. Lower frames per second
4. Same 9-point cross type AF System as the 50D

agree on this, except that I'm ok with plastic body

Plastic body is fine...you not going to fight a war with 60D.

lol. yes

IMO, another important aspect that we don't know yet, will be the high iso ability.
Hope it is comparable to 7D. ISO 3200 still usable (550D is iso 1600 usable imo)

More of a side-grade, if you will.

It like selling your very old Queenstown bigger 4 rooms flat and moving to more expensive and smaller CCK improved 4 rooms flat. Now you get lift at every floor, nicer better finish home, marble floor and very nice toilet bowl ;), beautiful garden but no more 20minutes direct bus to ION Orchard instead need to first take feeder service to interchange and catch another bus, maybe 50mins??? :D :D
