Canon 5D mk3 in Spring

wow! impressive specs. It seems more like a 1Ds4 in a smaller body. I wonder if it uses the same sensor as the 1DX? If it does, why 1DX is 18MP and 5D3 is 22MP?

This bod seems to have switch target market from serious enthusiast to wedding, studio and landscape professionals. Unlike the 5D2 when launched, it is short of being revolutionary. However it has upgraded the 5D series to be a solid camera to have. Now lets see the IQ. Hope the sensor can perform close Foveons.

the only upgrade for me is the AF the rest pure

waiting for the official review of this cam :)

Bad news for some: "Unlike the 5D Mark II, the 5D Mark III's focusing screen is not interchangeable."

note that it is an improved liveview and LCD. That should take care of the need to replace focusing screen.

However, it does appear Canon does encourage their own lens as there are some features that will improve final IQ of images such as CA correction and Digital Lens Optimizer in DPP.

I wonder if the newly designed mirror box will allow clearance for more alternative lenses. It is exciting time for all again :)

LV doesn't replace special focussing screens.

wonder if there's time lapse feature. :D

LV does and can replace the function of focusing screen. Eg-d grid lines can be easily implemented and even enhanced with leveller. Eg-S can be done similiar to focus peaking in Nex and magnification. DoP button also works with LV. The LCD with 102k should be quite good.

Wow, I didn't know the mkIII has an EVF! ;-) It doesn't replace it because it's all useless if you want to use the OVF.

I am replying to Anthony's concern about lack of replaceable fs for alternative lens users.

You can't use liveview with the VF. That's what I am using with the NEX as I can't use the LCD to focus and compose. Also heard that the new mirror box may be another issue.

isnt the 2 stops iso improvement in noise reduction important & useful to you?

From Planet 5D :

2 stop improvement in noise reduction (don’t be confused, this isn’t ISO which also got a 2 stop improvement) over 5D2

there will be no hesitation to push up to 3200 and 6400!

I love competition. Nikon D800 seems already put a high bar for 5DMkIII :p

That's incredible!!! Even at ISO 102,000 it's acceptable. These are the best I've seen pushed to that extreme!

yes indeed very very impressive

Don't get me wrong.... I really, really like the camera.... but....

I found the anticipation of the announcement far more exciting than the actual post announcement period. Kind of like Christmas...
