What I really liked is that Canon listened to the majority of users around the world. Most people were asking for a 5D MkII in a 7D body.

We got what we asked for and more!

The cat is out now.... no more excitment..

From pervious model release, canon has use few model as test bed some of the few features plan to implement in 5Dmkiii and gather response and feedback.
just like teasing and give a bit and drag a bit.
But overall 5D mkiii are good for working photographer can be part of working equipment. For hobby,it good to have but not a must.Need to weight is a need or want. 5D or 5D Mkii still can serve it purpose. Quality first.

Overall 5D mkiii spec are good.

Waahhh!!! :O :O Super duper impressive!! :O

Yes the 51,000 ISO and even the 102,000 ISO samples are impressive. The fact that DPReview created a special news bulletin on these samples is a testament in Canon's favour.

I think that Canon has been working on its low light and less noise improvement for quite a while. You can see the evidence of that in the photo below comparing the G12 ISO 3200 sample vs. the Nikon P7000.

There are claims that the 5D3 is TWO stops better than the 5D2. It will interesting to see a head to head comparison of the 5D3 and D800, but based on the D800 samples posted in this thread a few hundred posts ago, I would put my money on Canon.

To those who have said that there is nothing different about the 5D MkIII, here is a quote from Jeff Ascough, a professional photographer, who has used a pre-production model for the last 2 weeks:

"As good as it is, there have always been certain areas of the 5D Mark II’s performance that could do with some improvement and I’m pleased to say that the camera that I have had for the past two weeks is not only a worthy successor to the 5D Mark II, it is in my opinion just about as perfect a camera as you will ever handle. The new Canon 5D Mark III may look similar to a 5D Mark II but in all honesty this camera is so different in virtually every aspect that it could be called a different model number and nobody would have even noticed."

Hi guys, new video from Digitalrev about the 5D Mark III, fresh from the oven!

High ISO performance is real good!

Great video! I couldn't tell for sure but it looked like Kai was testing the 5D MkIII with the new 24-70 lens (MkII). This camera is truly developing an early reputation as a low light - low noise performer! I am looking forward to seeing more on this.

he was testing with 24-105 and 50 1.2

the 61 focus pt from the video seems pretty impressive too

Absolutely! There is and will be so much to like about this camera.

The first impressions have been very favourable.

You can't translate that to their full-frame sensors.

Yes, I agree Ageha, you are right but that wasn't exactly my point. Allow me to elucidate my argument...

My point was that Canon appears to be heading towards a goal of achieving low light - low noise supremacy (or at the very least... equivalency). They began this process a way back with the super Point and Shoot class of cameras, namely the G12 vs. P7000. As clearly shown in the photo above they achieved supremacy within this class of camera.

They continued this process with the the 1D MkIV and 1D Mk X and to a lessor extent the 5D MkII. However, with these improvements they never achieved supremacy against Nikon and other competitors (within the same class of cameras). The Canon 5D MkIII however, may be the first camera to finally achieve (at a higher level or sophistication of camera) what they started to do with the G12... that is, achieve low light - low noise supremacy within the same class of cameras.

Of course, all is not definite yet. We still have to see direct comparisons between the 5D Mk3 and the D800 as illustrated in the photo above. But if early indications are true, we could have a winner here.

Even if the D800 turns out to be a better low light shooter than the 5Dm3, i will still stick with canon. I am too invested in the system to switch.

The comparison of these two cameras is a purely academic exercise for me. In any case I believe both cameras are so good it doesn't really matter in practical terms any more.

Bro, r u serious?! To me, the high ISO performance of 5d3 is way way way better than d800's

I am not saying D800 is better. In fact I don't really know enough about either camera to pass judgement although some of the initial test samples as pointed out by others seem to show the 5Dm3 is better.

Ya, actually doesn't matter. D800 and 5D3 are at the same lvl, both r Great cam. And I am getting 5d3 anyway.i

Test charts aside, have u guys seen the sample images from canon's website? Frankly if I were to use these real world pictures as reference, the ISO and noise performance of the 5D3 at 3200 and 6400 isn't something which the current 5D2 & 1D4 couldn't do. And in terms of details wise, the level of details isn't as Impressive as canon made it out to be i.e. it's not a far cry from the level which the 5D2 and 1D4 could resolve.

To add salt to the wound, canon still refuses to give uncompressed video thru the 5D3!!! This is something which Nikon did right! And oh, Did I mention that the compressed video quality of 5D2 and 1D4 sucks? Oh yea, you can quote all the famous big names and all the big movies which are created by them, but heck the quality to me just cannot make it...

Yay.... Nikon ppl come in bash Canon ppl... Canon ppl go in bash Nikon ppl...

:dunno:

haters will eventually still hate~
