I like this, but will be taxed when reach home.

Nope. Didn't happen to me :)

Like avsquare says, just put it in your camera bag when you come back. I brought a lens, memory card and battery so I started shooting immediately right out of the shop. Box stayed in the luggage.

Probably sticking to my current gear unless I strike 4D

Just take out the camera, wear it on your neck or put inside your personal bag lo. Customs won't ask one.

They scanned every bag Try next time hehe. About 5 or 5.5% refund right? They take away some % for admin fee... But 5% out of 4k+ can get you additional accessories for the next trip, and claim again! Bye bye bonus...

Well perhaps I got lucky. But I've been making monthly trips to SG since last year without any problems.

why would anyone buy a 5d mark iii when all the "new" features are supposed to be long overdued? in fact, it should be priced the same as 5d mark ii.

Because this isn't 3 years ago?

He sounds like a butt hurt guy who cannot find a justifiable argument to get a MkIII so finds excuses to tell people why he doesn't want to get one. Full frame performance is one thing, the features to bring out the best in it are another. Also, the MkII has nothing that can make my life a whole lot easier, like high burst rate and superior high ISO noise performance.

3 years ago your knowledge in your job is a certain level and you were paid a certain amount.

Now that you have hopefully had 3 years experience, would you settle for the same pay? Afterall, you were supposed to have those skills from 3 years back in your job no? Only difference is now you can do the job a lot faster than before, which was what was expected of you in the first place.

is it cheaper compared to getting it locally?

Nope. I got it from there cause US warranty would be better for me. Singapore would be the cheapest if you can do a GST refund.

My 2 cents worth...

My 1Dmk3 and 7D still serving me well from wedding to product shoot. I might buy an used 5Dmk2 to compliment my workhorses as well as my Panny AF102 for video part of my businesses.

So in the mean time I am not considering the 5Dmk3 or 1Dx, although I every much wanted to have. Since my present workhorses still running fine, not considering upgrading unless there is a really good offer in the bns section.

Cheers.

We buy mkiii now at $41xx, sell 3-4yrs later @ $2k when mk4 launch.. or buy 2 yrs later when it drops to $3k then sell @ $2k when mk4 launch abt a yr or 2 later.. isn't the depreciation almost the same or betta when buy during launch??

I used mine for about 16 months and 'lost' maybe about $1.3k in value when I sold it, including the extra $$$ I threw in for the BG-E6 and Eg-S focusing screen. Not too bad lar, it captured a lot of nice photos and memories during the time I owned it. Not say won't feel the pain at all, but no regrets buying it. At least I bought it AFTER street price drop from $3.7k to $3.2k sometime in 2010.

Sunk cost is high!

Funny that ppl still argue why upgrade or why not upgrade since the camera is in the market already....

Although I dun own a 5d3 but I own a 5d2.... Of cos I believe anyone would more than delight to own 5d3 as new is always better.....

I guess those ppl that post negative about 5d3 are sour grapers as the only reason I can think of is they are unhappy their 5d2 will devalue..... Just my 2 cents....

Some things we can just take it with a pinch of salt.we can't control what others have to comment.

Sour for what?? Just shoot with what you have......

Having a 5dm3 is just bringing a greater pleasure in photography. i just bought it and really love the iso performance as compared to 7d. but af i felt is very similar. i would rather canon reduce the 61 af point and make the camera cheaper.

you must have not used a 5D2 before.. because a big big improvement to 5D2's AF is what the 5D2 users have always wanted. remove it, and you won't see the success of 5D3 :p
