What I meant was that K10D jpg processing engine isn't one of the worst out there, it's just different, but not the worst ...

Ah.

That's probably right.

It's definitely the most disappointingly out there though - but perhaps that's because it's rendition of fine detail is so good (and edge detail is so bad).

My suggestion: let's stop talking about these nonsense here, just go out and take more photos :D

Cheers to all and Merry Christmas!

just to add, they ain't bad but they if you are comparing among the others same generation dSLR, pentax one seems slightly inferior in their jpg processing especially on edge sharpness like what phil have pointed out.

Sharpness isn't everything I guess, and what Pentax try to emphasize isn't edge sharpness but fine texture detail, so the results would have more film look ...

Urgh.

Don't buy into marketing speak!

The ACR'ed images clearly show BOTH better fine detail as well as very good edge sharpness.

this place is sounding more and more like a pixel peeping pseudo techie forum with the introduction of K10D.

Pentax what have you done! :D :D :D

yes sharpness ain't everything. but for a jpg i would prefer if they could get both sharpness and details there. by looking at raw pic, we all know it is possible just that the jpg engine ain't the best.
imho, jpg are there to make one do less simple processing(eg sharpening, contrast) as most of the process should be done in the camera. But if one still have to touch-up on jpg images, i guess it pretty much lost it purpose(im not talking about extreme sharpness, just the normal sharpness we can get from dSLR or PnS camera).

for me i normally shoot raw. but if i do shoot jpg, i want all the simple processing to be done in camera as most of the time i do not do any touch up for jpg.

you don need a calibrated screen to see the different output when compare side by side(sharpness).

OH..... only the SHARPNESS..........but not the COLOR........:dunno:

Hmm, try again ...

haha i don think any calibrator can calibrate sharpness...

YES, U R RIGHT. :bsmilie: Only the SHARPNESS that's matter to u & not the COLOR.:dunno: DO NOT NEED TO BUY A CAMERA BUT THE SHARPENER. :bsmilie:

This might be the last camera carrying the pentax name, after oct 2007, it could be call Hoya. Hoya is buying over pentax.

really? did you read the lines carefully?

"............ The major conclusions in this announcement are that the Pentax name will remain, that Pentax's optical business will merge with Hoya's but that Pentax's current imaging systems division (that which is responsible for digital cameras) will continue. "

Hmm, try again ...

its funny how people who have not used pentax DSLRs are now coming in to say Pentax can't cut it for them cos of their jpegs. haa. get a life.

anymore of this... we'll be like a pixel peeping forum.

c'mon go shoot some pics. Got a local experimental noise gig to attend tomorrow. lets see if the k100d with FA50 1.4 and SR will work for me.

hmm...just enjoy whatever brand that u like or support...each brand has their pro n con....no end.

merry x'mas!!

Really? Pentax has had inferior JPGs since the ist* D. The k10D has far more features, but is carrying on that "tradition". At least the k10d has generated some interest.
