Canon 18-200mm F3.5-5.6 IS

i still find 18-200mm a gem. it very versatile. and IQ is decent enough to be used in most condition. All that i ever need is to find a larger aperture lens to compliment for low light condition say when clubbing.

BTW, is all your lock switch still working? My kind of getting lose and will unlock itself

Used for ard 1year + and my lock switch, despite its still working, it still unlock occasionally by itself.

Oh ya! how do you bring a dslr into clubbing areas? as in without passes can meh?

Just for comparison. Same sunset I think, but shot with a prime, uncropped.

Nice :D

Wow prime uncropped ? Must be at least a 400-500mm lens

Lovely sunset right ? Wished we were at the beach or mountains :D

Actually I was just trying to compare against the CA of the 18-200. Not a fair comparison I suppose.

500 with stacked 2x and 1.4x tcs on fullframe. Supported handheld with manual focus.

Hi Bro,

some noob question. So long if your lens is not 'Locked', it'll naturally slide down? Eg, when taking pics at 100mm pointing down at e subject. Will e lens slide extend By itself?

Also, if you buy e lens in Hk. How to check if e serial no of e lens teles with e receipt? I kinda bought a 18-200mm lens from a fellow CS-er. He's now selling another 18-200mm with e same description.

Be careful bro, I read in dpreview someone's cam got fried because he was pointing a supertele at the sun. The lens acted like a magnifying glass and melted some plastic in the mirror box.

Actually if you are using a prime, your changes of getting "fried" is much higher.

Sorry OT. Thanks for the warning. I have taken so many sunset shots without thinking about this risk

i think u should be worried that the sun fries your eye first before it fries your sensor (if u r looking thru viewfinder). no issues for your eye if you are using liveview mode.

can the lock be repaired?

I think if I use liveview to shoot the sun my sensor would really be fried. Thanks for your warning. Sorry OT again.

Had receive some inquiries on how to reduce the barrel distortion effect that the Canon lens have at the range of 18-23mm.

I would recommend to use a software called PTLENS -> http://epaperpress.com/ptlens/ it uses the EXIF data and calculate the degree of correction required.

Wow..thanks bro, I have been trying to figure out how to reduce distortion but I ain't good with photoshop.

Hi all,
I'm new to ClubSNAP. Recently bought the 18 -200mm kit lens and can't wait to use it. i am using a 450D at the moment. It's about 2 years old. This may sound like a silly question but what is the shelf life of this camera body? Should i top up and get a 500D? Also any idea where to get a dry box for under $100?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

i know at least one person still using 400D which is still working fine, so i doubt the 450D is reaching the end of its shelf-life anytime soon.

cheap dry cabinet can be obtained from Carrefour (slightly over $100 if i remember correctly). as for drybox, i think you can get it at a number of places near the $25 range.

Don't worry about shelf-life of your 450D, take good care of it and I am sure it would perform well for you.... In fact, I am keeping one as my spare too.. ;)

Oh great my 18-200 finally died for no reason, was taking some shots in class when I zoomed to ard 135mm (was using manual focus), i felt the focus ring was kinda stiffed up and then when i zoomed back to 18, it got stucked at 24mm, and when i tried to zoom out, some crap came off inside and now my front barrel can just slide freely and doesn't zoom in or out any more. So nw my 18-200 became 24mm prime, cool eh!:o
