hmm.. they ah, so far I have a quote from them b4.. didnt impress me. ITs true in SLS a lot of these shops 'chop' the foreigners.. I have had korean, OZ and American friends kenna chop chop.. so now I bring them personally to Alan Photo... quite paisei when these folks complain, " I thought SGP is a safe n honest place but..." Wah lau.. dunno where to hide my SG face..

Looks like they will continue to survive doing what they are doing now. But from what i understand, the sales person will pocket the difference from the "cost" of the product that he sold. Meaning, if the company price the cost of a particular product to the sales person at $10 and he manages to sell it to some sucker for $100, he gets to pocket the difference of $90. But if he sells it at $10, he gets to pocket nothing and he will be working for free. So, as you can see where the cause and effect of the "over pricing" of products sold by such establishment. I am not too sure about this one, but i think most or all of the products sold are not tagged with a price label from establishment who does business in this manner. This is so, they can "play around" with the pricing "accordingly" with the customer.

But then again, with so much talk about getting back at them, did any victims actually took action against them? (example: complain to CASE etc) Or is it just N.A.T.O?? :)

Erm to what i know song bros does not work this way. Their pay structure is that the difference of $90 is considered a profit u make for the company. Every staff has a different profit target. If they sell above the profit target, then they start getting commission. say target is 4k but he profits 5k then he gets commission rate * 1K. Thats what i understand from my friend who went for a job interview with them some time back.

i guess the tactics would be;
1- they knew u had researched for that brand, therefore knows that u knew the price. So they try to recommend another brand instead. claiming it to be better. thennnn jack the price
2- The accessory price is highly jacked, so buy 1 thing at a time.
3- Most of the times the salesman would only serve foreigners, knowing that the person in bermudas, tee shirt & flipflops are there to recce their products.
4- I think in many areas the shop talks to us like we are dirt, so F**K them.
For me unless i'm desperate n can't find the item elsewhere then i buy from them as long as they don't 'ketok' so much.
wat to do, that's life. Jus be aware of what's goin on n do ur homeworkfirst. Don forget BE FIRM!

Wow! I like you phrase " That's Life". It's truth that sometime you pay abit more for good service rather than screaming and shouting to get a few dollars cheaper and in the end got cheated. Wan is right, do you homework if you do not have the time then go to big megastores like Audio House so you will be safe then sorry.

brudders,

i suggest we dun bombard the shops names like that. do you know they can sue for defamation? just use description like no. x shop on the 2nd floor, we all know the places.

just check the prices properly.. fyi, with the rental in sim lim at $30+ psf, highest in Singapore, I don't expect shops in Sim Lim to give good prices.

You are right! As long as we know their price quotes are on the higher side, their services and they have to survive on the high rent, we just have to be careful.

Try to avoid shopping for consumer electronic products there.

Not sure if these links are obseleted, might want to read to help those who needs to redress.

Also i agreed with one reader the complaint threads should be toned very carefully as it can backfire, for instance, if one priced at recommend retail price, then its still within the line even though price might have dived. We are not talking abt a commodities here you know.
