Best Rechargeables for 580EX II?

mAH (milli ampere hour) is a measure of the storage capacity and a higher one doesn't contribute to faster recycle rate. A higher mAH will mean the battery can last longer and maintain the same recycle rate (but not increase the rate) for longer period of time.

Agreed. It all depends on how fast the flash unit can recycle.

Something I find with the 580 EX is that it recycles fast when shooting occassional flash shots. But when shooting continuously (couple of hundreds within 1 hours), the recycling times is longer than 550 EX (both using external battery pack CP-E3). Thought it could be due to the 580EX overheating faster vs the 550 EX. Not sure if the 580 EX II is better in this aspect.

Today's my first full try-out with my 580EX II at the image expo when shooting the Canon models. I shot with fully charged GP batts (those free 2300mAh ones when bought with PowerShot cams) at ETTL mode and recharging rate was very fast despite me using a WhaleTail.

Eneloops also comes in packs of 8! I bought one pack from SLS previously. :D

tt's great, how much did pay and bought from where? =)

i was walking out from peinsular plaza and went to inquire the price of sanyo 2700 at some shop outside.

he tried to sell me a pack of 4 for $40.

of course i did not buy from him la. funan is selling at $20.80 and he tries to sell me at $40.

just something i'd like to share.

Good to hear that :) maybe time for me to change ;p

btw, Sony came up with their CycleEnergy batteries which had the same features as Eneloop and Reckyo. Worth taking a look. Had used their NiMH rechargeables in the past and performance's good.

I think i know which shop u're referring to. U cannot buy anything from that shop, they'll just try their very best to 'chop' u.

Must be their new batts. I know Sony is famous for their batts which can charge fully at 15mins.

Alright sorry to ask silly questions but i really need to clarify these stuff.

What if i use Energizer batteries? how come no body talks about these batteries? (non rechargeable but are they as good or better?)

and when you say the Eneloops are <$20 do they come with the charger? sorry very sotong here.

munkey, you may still use the Energizer alkaline batteries, but here are the facts:

a. They are not re-usable. Which means that you will need to pay for new batteries every time. This is not wallet-friendly.
b. It has been documented that alkalines have high internal resistance, hence, re-cycling the flash will take longer as compared to re-chargeables which have a lower internal resistance.

Eneloops, when the selling price is <$20, will mean that there is no charger inclusive.

HTH. :)

BTW, Energizers do have rechargeables and they've new ones. If i'm not wrong, the Energizer booth at the Imaging Expo Singapore 2007 sells them.

When i got my Sanyo Eneloops (2 batts) which a 4-batt capacity charger quite many mths ago, it was $21.

Sony orange 2700 mha batteries blew my 580ex 3 times.. suspected my set of sony batteries to be faulty. i threw them away.

Energizer batteries very expensive, use and throw. appx 9bucks for 2, those silver high power ones.

that's great, Enegizers has rechargable ones.

By now, the sanyo 2 batt and 4 batt charger would have cost more than 21?

some photograhers use energizer as standby batteries in case the rechargable one failed.
