Be Careful of Fujifilm Warranty Repair Service Singapore

It's not possible to compare like-for-like. The design and construction (of say, a 5D and the X100) are different, so a higher or lower cost for service/ changing parts will reflect such differences.

i'm sorry for noobs question, how much canon charged for 5d shutter problem ?

EOS 5D does not have shutter problem. It has a manufacturing defect: the whole mirror box will fall off due to weak design. Canon issued a statement to reinforce the mirror chamber for free even if it is out of warranty.

Change of shutter assembly cost less than $300 (iirc $180) but that is different story, that's wear and tear not manufacturing defect. Every DSLR has an expected shutter lifespan.

This is bad news for X100 owners. Reliability problem is not limited to Fuji alone
Other cameras/lenses models have also some problems or should we call them weaknesses that manufacturers doesn't want to admit. :(

Hi Guys,

I called Fuji service center and I was told that they will repair out-of-warranty X100s with SAB free of charge. The kind lady whom I spoke to even acknowledged that the sticky aperture blade is a manufacturing defect. She added that those who were charged for out-of-warranty repair may have some other defects in their cameras that were more likely brought upon by... poor handling (I may not have heard her well on this).

I think those who have something to say should call-up the service center first before giving manic opinions as some brothers with heart ailments might not take what's being written here well. I hyperventilated when I read through the last 10 or so posts as I am also an X100 owner and am planning to keep the camera for a long time, beyond it's warranty.

Thanks.

That's good news to all X100 owners! Mind sharing the name of the staff who told you all that? With Fujifilm staff acknowledged this SAB issue it will be less hassle to get X100 fixed.

Thanks for sharing.

Thank You Filmbot
This is more appropriate response from FujiFilm, don't know who is right or wrong, but for me personally charging $800++ is too much, if it was hit by a car or fall from a plane then it's reasonable to charge that much

@film bot

Thanks for calling up and clarifying it. At least we know now that fuji Singapore is doing the same for the x100s in Singapore.

For cars, it's the ability to drive ... for cameras, it's the ability to take photos. Faulty brakes means you can't drive the car, Faulty aperture means you can't take photos.

Get the drift?

imagine repair a car for 80% of its cost!!!!
i was once a fuji user, s5pro, was quoted insane price and slow turnover for a sensor repair (a line of pixel discoloration, started appearing when the camera was 1.5years old). in the end sold the body for cheap.. $200+-300 for people to use at low isos when the pixel line doesnt appear

then it will be good if they offer a statement release on that, else i'm still staying away from fuji stuff. not that the camera is no good, i liked the fuji that i had owned before, but it doesnt give you a peace of mind

True.

She gladly gave me her name but I don't think that it's necessary to mention it here. I'd rather that those concerned call the service center. The number is in their website.

I understand your concern, Bro. I think it's best that you stay away from situations and things that might undermine your peace of mind. Let me wish you a wonderful, fruitful life, one that's without regret.

Thanks, Filmbot. I did the same as well, but was quoted the <900. Also a kind lady answered.

Nevertheless great news.

In my opinion, I think phone call not enough and if I am going to get 1 soon (and I love to), I will write in and get a confirmation in "black and white". Any issues, I prefer not to have to bang table etc, but to produce the Fujifilm's email to the service techinician.

Hi hjbyeo,

I suggest you call again and confirm. In my case, all that the lady had to hear was "sticky aperture blade", "x100", "out-of-warranty", and "repair" and she was able to answer straight without hesitation. She even spelled-out her name for me when I asked for her name.

But I would advise that you don't get the camera at all as I fear that you might just end-up worrying about defects occuring rather than taking photographs. Same goes to those whom you share the same sentiments with.

I wish you a great weekend.

If the non-service problem comes up again, i recommend writing to CASE. I know i will.

That's why I said, reveal the Fuji staff's name so that any forumer can quote her name when any discrepancy arise. The person who told you that Fuji can fix SAB for free might be one of the managers who was briefed to handle SAB issue separately (in this case FOC instead of quoting standard rate for parts and labor).

If not one might end up with different answers depends on whom you spoke to.

Cheers and have a pleasant weekend too.

Hi all,
After my initial posting of my $800+ repair quote, there is quite considerable response and I feel that I should update all on the status. Just a background , I brought my x100 along for a trip in China and guess what , the SAB issue had to happen during the trip of all times and I am stuck with F2 for the duration of the trip. Imagine having to use F2 for all the spectacular mountain scenery. dammm. Took a while to diagnose it as my photo was constantly over-exposed after I set the F-stop to 'A' mode and then realised I am stuck with the dreaded sticky aperture problem. Anyway upon return to Singapore, made a trip to FujiFilm and realised my warranty just expired and send in for a quote. Specifically mentioned that its is a sticky aperture problem and the lady who attended is a chinese lady. She say she needs to send it to the technician for assessment and would return with a quote in a couple of weeks. I thot I should be able to claim from travel insurance as it happens during the trip and thought that the quotation should be not more than afew hundred at most. Received a SMS quote for a total of $834.60 afew days later. I was really upset and this was the first post that I had send out on the cost of the SAB repair. Went down to FujiFilm 2 days later to collect my camera as I would not be repairing at this cost and this time a Malay lady attended to me. I politely questioned why is the cost so expensive and she immediately made a call to the service technician and grill him why he quoted so much as its a sticky aperture. She asked me to resend in my unit and would escalate the issue up to management. This happen last week and so far I have not get any further update to the cost of repair yet. I would update again once I got some firm response from FujiFilm

I suggest you PM Filmbot to get the name of the Fuji staff. The technician might be quoting blindly.
