wow, 175... that is cheap. Did you get any additional battery too?

Yep, got an additional battery pack for $80, Original Canon, not 3rd party. Both for $250 package deal, cash n carry.

For me, the battery grip serves 3 purposes with my 40D:-

1. Better "backward" balance to counter the lens weight and flash weight
2. Makes more sense when shooting vertical (More stable too)
3. Longer battery life

I am sure many of us have the same sentiments.

If weight is an issue, don't be a photographer.

The BG-E3 is coupled to my 350D most of the time. It feels better especially when I use it with the 430EX.

Got my BG. Great feeling and looks. Now I got lots of battery life!

When I first got my battery grip, I could practically hear my camera go, "You complete me!"... honest to God...

OK, it's a must for me. Gives me just the right weight and balance. Plus I've got large hands, without the grip, my pinky is always hanging loose.

same thing here! though its heavy but i feel that after putting it on, it brought my shooting experience to a new level ;)

Coupled this together with the EF 24-70 f2.8L lens, it really gives you a more sturdy hold and adds a better control to the 450D body to reduce any camera shake due to the added weight and also gives a more robust and professional look to the whole set-up.

;pthis thread is very convincing..i find myself started to think of getting a grip.
i presumed it as a last-on-the-shopping-list accessory previously:think:

Get it, you will not regret it. That's for sure. Take it from one who has the first hand experience. :)

I am a 450D user and I find my BG gives a better grip, especially for potrait (vertical) shots.

HOwever, with my 580 flash + BG + my big lens all on, my 450 body look so small!! haha.. imbalanced look.. but it serves me well!

Not to mention the option of using additional battery packs and having a 6 AA battery case for standby. Sounds great, doesn't it?

It's good that the battery grip allows AA battery. In some countries, it may be difficult to get the lithium battery for your DSLR if the current one not working. While AA batteries are very common in most countries. It may rescue your day. :)

any of u ppl using/recommend good quality 3rd party grip? may be it'll save some $$;p

i'm also afraid 3rd party grip may screw up the electronic contacts inside my 40D:lovegrin:

i'm also looking for 3rd part bg... anyone???

heard of this brand called phottix, not sure whether should use it, but most of those i heard who are using them, are quite satisfied, i opened a new thread, asking ppl to comment on them ...

me too, since i bought the grip it never leave my camera. the feel, weight & convenience when taking vertical shots just makes the extra weight worth carrying around. lastly, battery life no longer an issue when grip is on. :-)
